Can you please tell me if top spin or back spin has an effect on a tee shot with a driver ?

    If so, how ?

    Thank You

I use back spin on drives where the fairway is tight and if i have good wind i feel it carries more like it floats up into wind longer therefore goes further just what i have found will be interesting what more exp players think/do.

    hi

yes it does. the ball flies higher and runs less. in some conditions, on some holes it has different effect, such as with wind it may fly more and run more versus into the wind it may fly less. or mix of either.

it's hard to judge exact spin for each hole and each wind, but with practice, one makes certain observations :)

I use back spin when the wind is to my back help's the ball go farther

and i use top spin when im against the wind help's keep the ball low so it will

go farther but that's just my opinion.

Top spin on the links courses, SA and RSG, is a hoot. Into the wind, the roll offsets the loss of carry and with the wind is the best-the ball just keeps on rolling, over hill, over dale and when you land on the side of a hill you don't stop like with back spin. After a while you will find the spots to land in to get some serious length on your drive.

Be careful, though. Since back spin gets you carry off the tee, sometimes the lack of carry with top spin shoots you in the foot when you don't carry a bump and you're 20 yards behind.  :-)

i saw this discussed the other day.  it was: tail wind bottom,  head wind top, side wind 0, and any angle wind slight top or bottom if its a side head or tail.  they also discussed the yardage 1/2 yd per 1 mph tail or head up to 10 mph  ie a 10 mph tail add 5 yds   over ten add full yd  the wind one i am still testing but the other is correct for max distance. good luck  strikerseasy
