Interesting looking at those scores. If only the scores still looked realistic like that.

Great memories .... I started playing when that tournament started.   Even though I finished 841st in the qualifier I remember following the scores every day.

Going back to look at who qualified - 17 of those players would later become members of the C Club we started.   Almost 5 years later I've remained good friends with many of them + others I've met on WGT.

Good friends - lots of fun.

Haha.. I remember playing in that open when I first started playing on wgt.. I think the best score I could pull out of my *** was around a 78 or 80 lol.. Boy how the game has changed since then..

Qualifier.  Even par made the cut.

Championship.  Four players managed to get below par, with a median score of 76!

    This is great....  the scores....lol

Jim and I were talking about how hard Beth was with clubs we had when we started in another thread.

Top 10 finish in the final is 70.   Winner 66.   Just incredible

That was quite painful! and that 66 by me was quite epic.. :)

the 61 and 62 were simply unreal, because with those clubs... to shoot that score.. oh my god :)

There's an idea for a special tournament...the retro 2009 VUSO.

Does anybody know for sure what gear was available?  Judging from the few profiles of players who quit almost immediately after the Open on BPB, the G10 club set (possibly not the highest level?), level 18 Ping wedges, L19 Spider and Anser putters, and GI-D balls were about it.  The R9s and Satins seem to have been available then as well but are no longer available.

None of those players had three wedges in the bag when they stopped playing, either.  Was that even possible?

And finally, did black tees and tournament greens exist?

The WGT News archives are very interesting.  On the News page, scroll down and look at the right side for news back to 2008.

In March '09 new Starter clubs.

April '09 Ping G10 irons (no info on yardages)

May '09 in time for the Virtual Open: TaylorMade R9 driver, TaylorMade Burner hybrids and irons with steel and graphite shafts, the TaylorMade Z TP wedges, PING G10 irons with graphite shafts, the Lynx LX 5 Driver, and SnakeEyes wedges.
