I've played Bethpage Black a couple of dozen times in the last 20 years (hard to get on due to limited number of rounds and first course to fill up). The rough used to be so high that if you hit the ball in it, it was lost. Tough course to play and you must walk it, you will need to be accurate off the tee's or your ball will be in the woods.  Last time during the practice round a couple of pro's where complaining about the walk, I was about to say next time do it carrying your own bag.<p>When I play my goal is to break 100 best round is 97. When I play the other course at Bethpage I look to break 90.

I must admit this is pretty cool. I'm looking forward to it. Even considering buying a set of ping irons. I wouldn't think I have a chance but who knows.

Do you only get once chance to qualify?

Why not make this a full tournament and use the standard format of four rounds? A virtual cut will make the tournament more exciting and after four rounds there is less likely to be a tie for first place.

I wonder if the folks running the U.S. Open website have an inkling of what's to come to them Monday morning? I hope they sandbagged their servers, because a virtual wave of players is headed in their direction. I'm thinking this event will open both sets of eyes of how popular WGT has, and is, becoming. Don't forget to give the U.S. Open folks their due for giving us this wonderful opportunity. See you on the box!

Am I correct to assume that everybody is going to have the same clubs for the U.S. Virtual Open? I think it'd be unfair for a newcomer (who is already at a disadvantage because of a lack of experience) would be further handicapped by the fact that some players are using superior equipment.

Qualifier.  Even par made the cut.

Championship.  Four players managed to get below par, with a median score of 76!

LMAO!  I placed 7,973rd in the qualifier!!

Know that I started Jun 20, 2009 and the qualifier ended on Jun 21st so I was brand new to the game and using starter clubs and balls.  I don't remember my score but it had to be well over 100!

I do remember thinking how the hell do players shoot under par on that course!

    Thanks for the memories.

LOL. 2002! I jumped in in May and all I remember wasn't killing myself to get qualified, which never happened. I do remember looking at the Pro Shop and thinking what a waste for the puny clubs they had-weren't much better than the freebies but at that time a few yards made a huge difference.

    If I'd only known.  :-D
