  So on the 7th hole at St. Andrews the wind was in my face so I didn't want to iht it to the right to risk ending up in the rough with an awkard angle for my second, so I laid up to the left. The ball came perilously close to landing in the bunker but settled in the left rough with 184 yards to go. I hit my second shot just hoping it would stay on the green, but not only did it stay on the green, but...

  And as a side note, this was only one of my two hole-out eagles for the round. Also holed out on #18.

  I don't get the logic of laying up so far to the left.

  I subscribe to the shortest possible approach shot theory.

  When the wind is back toward the tee, I try to hit it in the big bunker.

  Of course with the right wind you can always just go around the big bunker.
