Anyone else noticed that sometimes the wind has no effect at St Andrews. Hitting into a 19mph win with distance 100 yards.. so go the full 110 9 iron and she flies to 116 yards???
Seems to happen on a few holes... often on the first.. from 85.. into 17mph wind so use PW and it goes 102 yards..
I noticed you have starter irons and wedges. They produce so little backspin that the ball is least affected by wind in your face. Even full backspin lob wedge into the wind isn't going to be killed nearly as much as a high spin wedge. Also, the starter club trajectory is much lower so the ball hides under the strongest winds. When ever I throw the starters in the bag I always have to remind myself that short irons and wedges will not be so effected by wind in my face. Usually after hitting it long ,flubbing a recovering shot and missing the par putt, I remember. ;-)
