So three students each have ten pounds and decide to go out for a meal.

    The bill comes to £25.

This leaves £5 in change from the £30 submitted.

The change arrives and they agree to tip the waiter £2 so that the change left is equal to each of them.

When they arrive home they each have £1 left. The Maths graduate does some sums.

If they began with £10 each, and now they have £1 each, then that means they each spent £9.

    So 3 x 9 = 27.

    + 2(the tip) = 29

Where to did the other £1 go?

What kind of cheapskate would tip 2 lbs on a 25 lb bill ?

(Remember when Sergio Garcia got terrible press for leaving a $1 tip for a big meal?)

Be kind to your waiters and waitresses people !

Waiter is this fare to eat in or go?

Waiter Im sorry but my funds are all of a squeeze

    Waiter would a kiss suffice

Waiter your help was better than nice

Now tell me against lucre would my kiss ever pale?

Waiter my thanks in abundance and too with a smile

The bill was £25 and an additional £2 was paid to the waiter. Which makes the total expenditure £27 (3 x 9). They each got £1 back so it all works out :).

I hardly ever get any of your flowery writing, you feeling okay liz? :P
