    Scott2mee:

If your a member of any CC and you don't play in your CC tournaments your weak..Sorry if it sounds harsh but there's no way to sugar coat that..

Sounds to me like you should vent this within the walls of your CC if that is what your view is. Other CC's run with complete independence from your personal view.

I have gone as far as going to other members of my CC's profiles to check the date of the last time they played a round.. Because I'm sick like that. lol.. But in a lot cases I found members that had played 18 and even 36 holes that day and the day before that.. How about playing 9 in a CC Tournament.. After all your a member of that CC.. I agree with Alan though.. There's more to a CC than just playing tournaments.. But I think one tournament per week isn't asking for much.. I've thought about trying to shame some members  into playing by posting something like this on their profile.. "Hello we both belong to the same CC and I've noticed you never compete in any of the clubs tournaments.. I realize that your scared to play because while you are a "Tour Master" it's pretty much just a label probably won by someone else.. But if you go to your CC's home page and click on Club Tournaments you could prove me wrong"  But I couldn't really do that.. = )

A lot of difference. Big clubs can offer so much more, competing against 249 other members is much better than playing against the same 3 or 4. Prizes are bigger and there is more insentive to improve. :-)

But it makes no difference to his statement, it still stands. You don't join a club not knowing how many members it has, surprised when it only has 7 and become disappointed that you play the same 7 members again and again (I assume).

I always wondered if the big clubs of 100 and 250 thought they were better than the smaller clubs with only 15 or 30. Interesting.

My club is smaller by design, and I (we) intend to keep it that way for the foreseeable future. In another 6 months to a year - who knows, maybe we'll up it, but I (we) intended on having no more than 36 members for the "season" we're currently running. Maybe next season we'll bump it to 42. I could open the floodgates, but member count doesn't mean as much to us as it seems to for some. Plus, smaller clubs can offer things that bigger clubs can't. So there.

What you'll find within the walls of my club are very active and dedicated players, a real solid community, some top notch talent, and  many that are on their way to greatness. I suppose we're measuring our success using a different scale, but I sincerely doubt a larger club could poach my guys with the lure of a more spacious courtyard.

But I digress back to the original topic.

I find it to be an odd phenomenon that someone would join a club and then just not take part in what the club is doing. Granted, people get busy, go on vacation, etc... but there's a huge difference between missing a couple tourneys and being a ghost.

Not all clubs are the same, so it's pretty important to find the right one for you. Test the waters. If you find it's not what you're looking for, move on. I believe that's acceptable. Try another, try 2 more, or decide that being in a club at all isn't right for you.

Owners and other active members of a club should be able to convey to a new member what the expectations are fairly soon. Some may not know exactly what they should be doing.

It should be a given though, that  the main objective is to participate in the club!! What are you there for if you don't participate!! Dammit, go play your club's tourneys right now and get off the main forum, slackers!!!

PS, I know of several other high quality clubs with membership at 50 or under, so don't let that be the end-all basis of your judgement.

Kevin - great post and to the point.

Yes participation is one facet of being a member of a CC, if one never does so why take someone else's space. However the expectations to play every day or even every week in a CC tourny isn't every CC philosophy, that's all.

I personally have changed several CC's (sometime I got kicked for not playing much - which is in the right of the owner to do) and I wasn't going to join anymore due to my 'erratic' participation in games; I much prefer the community life a CC offers, exchanging ideas, jokes, banter etc.

Then the perfect fit (for me) came about and never looked back.

    Trial and error.

Sometimes small CC's turn out to be big CC's And your correct Courtneyfish.. Lots of members means lots of competition..

As it pertains to the OP, it only makes a difference if you were actually playing against all 249 other members. I'm sure your CC, as well as any other 250 member CC, has great tournaments with lots of members that have acquired a ton of experience and are more than willing to share that knowledge with less experienced players. But I'm also quite sure of the frustration you feel as an owner when only 30-40 of your 250 members show up for any given tournament, which is what I believe the OP was trying to express.

Joining a CC without playing in club tournaments or participating in club activities when they clearly play regularly outside of the CC - I don't get it personally. Unless you're joining the likes of Deviations or Transgressional for the sheer status of belonging to an elite club, why bother joining a CC at all if you're not going to participate?

Maybe l should create a CC with strict guide lines like this..Absolutely no tournaments under any circumstances.. Anyone found creating tournaments or befriending other club members will be removed immediately  And most important of all.. Have a crappy time..lol.. Where do I come up with this stuff..
