    DarSum:

The gain in distance with the R1, and yes that IS relevant, is not the only advantage over the R11. The consistent meter and extra bit of forgiveness also come into play.

Anyone who says the R1 is not advantageous over the R11 either doesn't own it or does own and hasn't used it enough to get used to the things you can do with it.

The club will CARRY 320+ with a 15 to 20mph tail win. That's 320+ in the AIR. Not 320+ after it lands and comes to a stop.

To give a scenario of where that it is huge. Let's say the US Open was played at BPB again. You're on #9 tee with a 5 to 10 mph from around 10 or 11 oclock (almost in our face but slightly from the left). The R1 will carry that shot slightly left of the bunker and far enough past the trees on the left to put you around 145 to 135 out. The R11 will not carry that shot far enough past the trees to give you a shot. If it carries to the short grass at all.

So the R11 player has to play out to the fairway right of the bunker. Which leaves him some 30 to 40 yrds behind the R1 player.

I will bet any ONE person (whoever replies first and takes the bet) 1,000 credits that the person who wins the WGT US Open this year will be using that driver.

EDIT: I just hit this drive after posting this. Oakmont #17 with a 5mph wind from 1oclock. I could never get the R11 to carry this far with any amount of head wind. And it wasn't for lack of trying either lol

For those that don't wanna watch the ball CARRIES 283 yrds up that hill into that wind and rolls onto the green to finish at 309 yrds.

    R1 distance over the R11 isn't significant my _ _ _.

I have to agree with everything stated here. I did rent the R1 during the free rental period, but wasn't entirely convinced by the time the rental ran out. I rented it again today, just to try it once more. The smoothness of the meter is great and I am pretty sure I could ding 95% if I kept track. The distance is a great bonus, but like you say the other benifits make this cannon a sweet weapon !

I will try to "paste" a Boomer and show what it is capable of too.  :)  Cheers.

Edit:  Not that there was any advantage to this drive, but I would never have made it with the R11.

R1 forgiveness and a little BOOMfactor as a bonus  ;)

I had the R11s and it would carry the bunker / rough complex on #9 at BPB and get you into the fairway with an open shot from about 135 to the green.  I believe that the R11 would get you there as well as long as the wind was under 5 mph into you.

The R1 is much more foregiving that either version of the R11.  It is also longer by somewhere between 3 and 15 yards depending on conditions.   Since we don't have a driving range it is tough to test them against each other with perfect conditions.

I wasn't sold on the R1 when I bought it but I had extra credits and noticed that all the best players were putting it in their bag.  I bought it and except for a few shots on the course that are tough with it (BPB 2 and CON 4 for example) I have been very pleased with it.

I consistently can get to 300 yard average in a round and using b/s and t/p I can work the ball to may advantage in the wind.   Had I known it was available to me, I would have skipped the R11s step but all in all I'm happy with it

I might actually downgrade my driver. The R1 is too much for Merion. I'm fed up with having to choke down on it all the time.

FWIW, there's no real advantage at Merion with the R1. Plenty of opportunity to try high risk//high reward shots though but definitely a non-essential to scoring.  :-)
