    bubbadork:

Microsoft Security Essentials is fine. Couple it with Spybot, Ad-Aware, and stay off the Russian and porn sites and you'll be fine.

If you dont download cracks and stuff like that dont see the reason to use an antivirus...  and if you do you can check those files with more than 40 antivirus at once uploading the file to: https://www.virustotal.com/ 4 years without using any antivirus, 0 problems... ;)

OMG...no problems? Please don't tell me you have no Firewall too......

omg I totally agree with you, i have had only ever used the FREE version of AVG and had no problems at all, its simple! its free! and its not over whelmed by ads itself . I have downloaded a lot of 'free' stuff and emulation programs gaming programs(dolphin/sega/movies) etc.. and always been delt with by the AVG program if there was a bug.

The best FREE anti Virus programs are Avast and Avira.

AVG has seen its day as has MSE

Spybot although once a staple for PC installations along with AdAware hasn't been favoured for a long time and Malwarebytes is the standard now.

Its also important to only run 1 malware and 1 AV program at once.

Dont take my word for it though, go have a look here

and book mark this place for interesting reports on internet security in general
