  I searched the forums to see if this question had already been answered, but was unable to find an answer, if it has.

  Can someone provide any exact figures (or more precise ballpark figures) regarding how many photographs per course are used in the game? The only info I found so far is the word "thousands" repeated several times. From the course making video, I understand that probably thousands of photos are taken of each course, but from playing the game a few times and seeing some of the awful camera angles that occasionally crop up, it seems to me that each course is represented in the game by a much smaller number, perhaps 2-3 dozen up to maybe around a hundred or so.

  So, what's the real scoop?

  It should say 10's of thousands. Likely many more than 100,000.

  Consider all the landing spots and associated camera angles needed to represent all the possibilities off a single tee - good shots, bad shots, short shots, long shots, right rough, left rough, bunkers, over the green on par 3's, etc

  So WGT has to have a hundred or so still images ready to represent the results of just about every possible shot..

  If you shoot a 70, WGT may only have to use a hundred or so, but if a player shoots 100 they have to be able to show that player a lot more angles.

  If you play in a foursome, WGT has to be prepared to show each player a different set of images.

  You're right, I misspoke what I wrote above-- I should have said that I think the game uses 2-3 dozen, up to about a hundred shots to represent each hole, not each course. But I'd still like to have a figure more precise than "thousands" from WGT, if they're willing to share.

  Other than just being curious, what in the world does it matter? The game is going to play exactly as it does regardless.

  Depending on the course 200,00-300,000. Merion for example was closer to the 300,000 number.

  Seriously, 300,000 photos available in-game on one course? That's roughly 10,000 to 20,000 photos per hole!

  I think with going to the effort to get that many, your team could be more creative to get some better angles in tricky spots. Like, take a boat onto some of the water hazards. When the land drops steeply away from the green, shoot from a stepladder, or hold your monopod overhead and use a shutter cable or self-timer, etc. Also, instead of the expense of hiring a full-size helicopter, there are now radio controlled helicopter camera platforms used in the motion picture industry, which would be stable enough and have sufficient lifting capacity to carry your camera and GPS equipment for the aerial shots. Perhaps hiring one or two of those might save you some money.

  I agree. I just had a shot from the narrow bit of rough in back of the 8th green. Only the reverse angle was usable because the standard view did not show the green surface below the front slope.
