My take on this is rather old school, but then I'm old.

When I play any kind of sport requiring a good eye and sharp muscle memory I have much more satisfaction having done it on my own abilities than to rely on mechanical aids, devices, and the manipulation of tools. (supplied with or not) such as calculaters, rulers, charts, cheat sheets, marks on the screen face, slide rule ? and what ever else you can come up with.

Relying on those items mentioned reduces what is a challenging game (real or otherwise) to simply following a prescribed formula.

The only challenge then is to hit the ding line or if using the other method of launching your swing at the part of the meter you have chosen.

Granted this is much harder than most players will admit, but it is also an eye, brain, muscle requirement that to my knowledge (although suspected) has not been compromised.  This is what still makes Golf a sport, and a great deal of fun.   My Nickle.

    +1 for the real thing!

    I don't like laser&GPS - one distance marker is enough (150 yds in GB, 150 m / 100 m in metric countries),

I don't like carts but motorized trolleys & walking,

    I don't like chippers & long putters.

I don't use rules like "4 o'clock, 10 o'clock" club movement or "two fingers behind the heel" putting strokes.

I rather use my senses to check the lie, the course and the elements, and I use my feel, my "muscle" memory for the strength of the shot.

Alas, this computer game is a different ambience. There are measurements for the environment, displayed in 2D, there are artificial indications (grid) for slope, and the stroke is but a minor hand&finger movement with the mouse. I feel the temperature of my coffee, but my (muscle) memory fails here. It's less important outside, but essential for me on the green to transform the distance given to a measured shot strength with a stroke table and a putter pal.

I still use my "feel" for aiming and do only simple mental arithmetic, but without said support I'd fail in most cases. Strong admiration for a friend who became TL only with feel&memory.
