I've been here a while now, and two largely irrelevant questions have been bugging me since I started.

On St Andrews #2 from the legend tees on the right side of the fairway looking from the tees to the green (opposite the hotel) there is a single story building, that appears to be quite large, but it's right in the middle of the course. Does anyone know what it is?

On Oakmont on quite a few holes but particularly #3 there are flagpoles, does anyone know why they're there? (Apart from to fly flags from).

    +1 H!

Those aiming guides are at OAK ##1, 3, 4 and 5, usually hidden by the aiming square.

The building at STA is Pilmour House, a public clubhouse with a big restaurant in it, shop etc. as well as the starters and first tees of the New and Jubilee courses. There's a big parking lot on the seaward side, and closer to town (direction of Swilcan Bridge) there is the Ladies Putting Club with the fabulous "Himalayas" putting playground.

    Memories...

    *sighs*

Thank you everyone for the replies, I thought it looked like a clubhouse but I thought it was in a strange position i.e. in the middle of the course and I thought the 'real' clubhouse was the thing by the 18th with the clocktower.
