Somebody please tell me how I'am suppose to play this hole. I've just played it in the tournament.

I hit a good approach shot to within two yards. I don't often play this course, so I forgot I needed to be below the hole. It was only a two yard putt, but it did have lot of break on it. I hit it well wide to allow for this. It just misses and goes 20ft down the green. I give it a good hard hit back up and it rattles the hole and goes 8ft past. I putt back and it just misses the hole. It goes all the way down the green again. I end up with a triple bogey.

    I think it's a very cruel green.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    This:

I needed to be below the hole.

From uphill on this and other scary holes (remember OAK#2) I enter paranoia mode and try to reach a good position for the second putt.

Alosso is right. Sometimes here, as in outside golf, par is a great score :-)

Or you just get very lucky like this :-)

I agree, keep the ball below the hole - think course management. I would rather have a 20 foot uphiller than a 5 foot downhill putt this hole (and could still end up 29 feet past lol).

It can still be a birdie hole, but play smart.

There are a few holes like this, 15 at Merion is one for me, been 3 feet away, missed and ended up off the green lol (more than once), and a couple at Oak and Oly.

Needed a par for a 58, had a downhill putt and took 7, scarred me!

Below the hole is the ideal spot and where I try to hit, but if you end up even with the hole on the right, I have had some success by calculating where you think the break should be then aim one foot above that. The ball hits in line with the hole than filters down to the hole, because of the severe downhill past the cup. Something like THIS

Or go right at it and hope the hole gets in the way....lol    HOLE
