Same here, to the extent that overnight the game has changed so radically for legends (far back tees and super fast greens that easily turn birdies into bogeys) that many of them feel as though they had been thrown back in their amateur days when pars were an achievement and birdies an exploit.
Only the hard core golfers that are the most adaptable -- willing to significantly lower their expectations after a blissful time in golf fantasy land where -9 on 9 holes was possible-- will hang on for the ride. I am one of them, and I keep looking at the PGA tour scorecards to get a sobering dose of reality check.
As for the legends who sigh after an obscene birdie and eagle fest that now is only the privilege of a few virtual golf prodigies, there is always Tiger Woods Online and its half-decent, half mediocre graphics, and shooting system that feels like a boring mechanical exercise. I do have an account there, but I rarely bother using it, as it puts me off in too many ways.
