Is it just me or is anyone else noticing a difference with you chips (and even flops & pitches for that matter) around the greens?

They seem to require more power than on other courses; almost like the first bounce really grabs the turf.

I realize with the turtle back greens, most chips are uphill but they don't seem to release like other courses.

    Any thoughts?

P.S. I consider myself a pretty decent scrambler around the greens.

Noticed the same thing on the qualifier. Particularly striking considering these are championship greens (not particularly fast compared to other championship greens, but still).

Noticed on a couple of holes you do haft to give it a lot more in saying that uphill and ball checking a little bit.

Got to be careful give it to much and will really run away from you.

A number of pins are not only close to the fringe, they're parked on the edge of some ferocious roll that winds up a chip or pitch if you blow the putt. As fast as they roll down, it requires some oomph to get them back up. I find pitches are less likely to come up short.

Heh. I see Pinehurst as a course full of Merion#5s.  :-D

Yep, got to think about those 4 ft up pitch shots. Had one roll back past where I started. LOL
