It says what it says.
WGT has to photograph the hole placements 7 or 8 months before the Open actually happens. I suspect having more than 2 hole placements substantially increases the total number of photographs WGT would have to make of all 18 of a venues greens.
I also suspect WGT is subject to a time limit on getting all the needed photographs made.
Don't forget that added photo post process prep and programming time extra hole placements would require.
Unless WGT's graphic's people are completely inept, and there's a good case for that, that's not even remotely how that's done, or rather should be done.
WGT doesn't, well should not, have to photograph pin placements, they can set the pins where ever they want. The photographs are digitally 'mapped', WGT can drop pins where they want them, the visual representation of the hole/pin is just that.
The assertion that WGT is out there spending thousands on photographic services before major's so that 'we' get a realistic game is laughable, because a) it's them and b) it's not required. The only time WGT would need to 'shoot' greens or anything else course related is if it was altered by the CC, as in landscaped n redesigned. Once that green is shot they can drop in elements as they see fit.
Speaking of greens, if WGT wanted to actually invest in something to make the game a little more realistic they should tighten the putting grid. Supposedly having the game 'mapped to with 2"' I think is what they say, and having a putting grid that is so laughably loose and full of gaps is ridiculous. Again, just one example of how arcade-like this game is.
