I understand green is faster and I have to hit longer off tee but...is rough rougher? sand harder to hit out of?  I f I hit my beginner club on same hole same rough area or sand should I expect same result?

    Thanks

The best way to find out is play all the courses with same clubs and balls.

The rough is different in terms of places like Olympic, which has 40-50% just off the fairway, whereas most links courses have 20-25% in the first cut.

Bunkers at Bethpage are mostly 15-20%, which means you can play different type shots to get out - flop or punch instead of a full shot.

Some holes on different courses play long , and others play short.  Don't trust the stated yardage for every hole.

As of last month WGT removed any spin from shots played out of rough, so expect to get at least 3 to 7 yards of roll on a flat green. And this is regardless of club and ball used. It's like playing with starter clubs.

Accuracy is the secret to good scoring as long as u can hole the odd putt.
