Yup, that's my speed...day late and a dollar short.

Thank you Lonnie. VEM is killing my enthusiasm for the game.

Need to get some (current) ideas on this subject.

That's what you get for gaming the average.  :-)

    cej0:

If VEM is in play all of the time, how do people still score -19 on a round?  How can you compensate for the erratic tendencies of VEM?  You just need to be lucky, I guess?  I am not lucky most of the time.  I feel like I'm a pretty decent player.  But this VEM makes me look like a hack half the time.  How does one deal with that?  I've had those crazy rounds where it seemed like I just couldn't miss, even when I obviously did miss the shot I was trying to execute.  That's fun.  The good side of VEM.  But then there are the times where I execute the exact shot I was trying to do, and the result looks like I totally flubbed it.  That's not fun.  The tough side of VEM.  I can't see how anyone can score consistently low rounds when shots are so erratic, even from dings, as a product of VEM.  I don't hit the ding all the time, most times I off-ding on purpose, but when I do I expect a certain accuracy on the shot I was trying to hit.  How does everyone else deal with this?

They can putt. Those who score low consistently can make the putts no matter where it ends up on the green due to VEM, slight miscalculations, miss hits,  wind or whatever.

and all of the sudden ding drives start slicing, off-ding approach shots start hooking in the opposite direction of what they should,

Is it fair to say that if you ding, your vem will be less than if you don't ding? If I ding my drive, I never get severe slicing and/or hooking. Is there any (good) method to reduce it?

    Honestly,

Try stepping back several yards and give yourself a Fway to aim at more often.

But yes miss with the wind (wrong side) after several great scores (albeit from reds) you might get a little extra oomph wide.

Very true. But a year ago all I was doing was playing WGT Best of Par 5, scoring a max 198 (11 shots on 18 holes) once a day to max my CC's total and keep my "Days Played in a Row" alive. Then I asked some high level players what they did to get so many "contribution points" and learned THAT secret.

I think VEM is the DARK MATTER of WGT. It does exist and you can see it in action when you miss the ding (and even when you hit it). We just don't have enough knowledge about it.

Hey, at least I'm playing more!
