  The 1st attempt was showing as 30/40 lie. I have no problem getting up and out from sand...most of the time. I've never been in any sand at Bandon, so I was baffled by the first shot. The remaining attempts were just trying to see what would/might work. The ball was evidently embedded in that wood wall. 

  The only time I've ever had to hit sideways from a bunker was a couple times at St Andrews (2 years ago, probably), or in the UEL bunkers.

  Like I said, the 1st attempt caught me off guard, so I wanted to see what was happening.

  And you're right about the lie, if it was in real life golf. Only 50% of this game simulates real life golf, and I just happened to find a spot that does simulate real-life golf :-)

  Not just the 1st attempt showed 30/40 bunker lie, all of them did, so that's not really telling the whole story. I guess a bit of a visual glitch, showing the ball further back from the front wall than it actually was (or the wall was taller than it looked).
