IBWoods thank you for sticking up for your club, I have only been on 3 clubs but when your happy where you are might as well make friends & play golf sometimes you just don 't like the way a club operates & try to find somewhere that might be a better fit. So many people burn out here, hope your club does well and keep playing good luck to you

Tuna there must be a mix up with the other invites out as well . Far as I can see debrug and davehubert are at English lakes. Not to mention the other ones.

Hard to believe the same mistake has happened again as those 2 don't post on here.

So smacks of bullsh!t to me.

Your owner poaches whether he was found out this time through your error or not. So thanks for heads up

    Bubbs,

The original post in this thread was by alanti regarding the invite to MMCC. And his receiving that invitation to join was a direct result of my mistake. As for any others, I can't speak to those since I have no knowledge as to who is contacted or why contact was made. I can think of a few valid reasons why contact might be made; one being the manner in which I received an invitatioin to join--I asked to join. Since joining MMCC I've receied an invite from another club because I was on the friends list of a player that joined the respective club. I don't know if that player suggested it to the owner or the owner was looking over friend lists of new members. Seems reasonable to me either way. I thanked them for the offer, but said I was happy with MMCC and wished them luck in building their club. I personally don't see the problem with sending invitations to members of other clubs, but I have never been an owner or director. And after seeing the time and effort that the officers of MMCC put into running the club, I can well understand why you, and others, might have a more visceral reaction to the practice than I do. That said, if anyone is interested, it would be my pleasure to catch a round with you sometime soon

Havin' fun. Hope you are too.

    Tommy

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, and diff'ent clubs for diff'rent Bubbs. It's all good. Cheers!

    IBWOODS:
While I do not normally respond to someone who has an obvious ax to grind

Not really an ax to grind, just the manner of recruitment is wrong IMO.

IB - I really like what you say about the comradeship within the club, and in my eyes, this is what separates an ordinary club from the great ones. "Top Five" . earnings, numbers, XP etc mean nothing and in my eyes should be avoided in trying to quantify the value of a club..

Had your owner responded, he could have explained this, thus removing assumptions - that was the intent of the thread.

His manner of approach is scorned by many, thus I offered a better way to achieve the right type of player for the values of your club. By wall posting random players does not......as you have not detailed what the values and expectations are. By attracting the right mix of players is crucial and greatly reduces turnover.

As for the miscommunication with Tommy and Pete, that is understandable, and it is also easy to misinterpret posts and the intent thereof.

I did get annoyed when Pete did not respond, partly as it was a lost opportunity and partly as he did not address this "undesirable" approach to recruitment.

As I said, owners and directors do put a lot of effort, time and often money into having a successful club (in terms of member satisfaction), hence why approaching players already in a club, is scorned upon by 95% of owners and players alike. So when this does occur, owners (Pete in this case) should expect some derision from those concerned.

But both Tommy and IBWoods have given a few reason why MMCC should be considered, and hopefully future players will take this into account, rather than taking pot luck on wall posting random players - you will benefit by getting the right player with the same core values.

Simply having a full roster does not make sense unless all players have the same values.

The club I belong to likes to keep to around 50 members, we know each other and we are not simply numbers or user names. We will never be top XP or clash contenders, we do not buy passes as we have never been fooled by a flawed points and reward system - we are mates who would offer a fellow member the shirt of our backs.

A good WGT CC should be about those bonds and friendships, if you can sell that to new members, you are on a winner.

Like the best form of advertising, word of mouth is your best bet.

That ^^^^^ is spot on and very well penned.  I have been preaching the same things about quality over quantity.  Our CC focuses on the same thing.

The reason I friended you is because I saw your post in the WGT forum that you were looking for a new club in the top 5.

It may be in the top 5, but it's certainly not in the top 5 best..

    Kind regards

    Dave.

I read in an earlier post that, because there is no official criteria used to determine the "best" CC, it becomes strictly subjective. I suppose if it is based on Clash wins, then the Georgian is #1. But, what about membership participation? , or general satisfaction with their CC?.. has any polls been done to determine this?. Size of a CC?...some large CCs have members on their roster who haven't participated in anything for many months. Most CCs remove these people. To keep them makes the size of the CC somewhat artifical. What about smaller CCs?, they are easier to manage and are usually a cohesive group. Are the goals set by the CC achieved?...different metrics could be used, but none are. So, I agree that an owner or member stating they are in the top 3 or 5 or 10 is impossible to prove or disprove.

Would not worry CT as it aint a competition.

Some folk join a club and say, "wow theres loads happening here, so well ran", and stay and muck in. Some join and say "this is sh!te there`s nowt happening", and leave.

To me, i looked at a lot of clubs when i made my decision. I clicked many club comps played by an active member or owner and seen how many actually took part.

I then messaged owner of a club i was impressed with and had a conversation. Then joined if felt right.......Good activity, good friendly truthful discussion......BINGO.

Thats what i do now......never send invite unless friend request accepted, they reply to my personal invite and they sign up for website first....Thats what i believe anyway

Hence "stone the fookers" is my view on those sending random invites out to attached folk.........It aint fair on hard working owners, but if someone accepts an offer from another club, on a whim, then good ridance anyway.

Some great top clubs who dont do it, and they are the top clubs......IMO ;-)
