They're not really different, Tracy. Compare the meter speed to accuracy-there's the trade off.

What you see in my bag is what I've used since they came out-all Satins.   :-)

don't carry a hybrid as it's not necessary.  That allows me to carry 4 wedges including a PW.  You'll find that if you look at the top 10 money winners' clubs there's a likeness among them all when it comes to wedge selection with a few subtle differences that are personal preference.

why not carry a hybrid? what do you fill the range between say the 3-iron and the 3-wood with? There's a pretty good gap in distance there.

Tracy, actually for you and the current G10's you have, I'd carry 3 wedges and a 203yd G10 3H...the 203 yd 3H, is a must for your club set (IMO) and is how I played to TM until upgrading to the level 57?+ G10's.  In instances where you come up short, the 3rd wedge will get you close for a par putt.

Reason I say this is the 203yd3H will stop better than even your 4iron will...until you upgrade your irons that is...now with the high level G10's, I sold the 3H back since my 3iron now goes 210...and stops as well as the 3H I used to use.

Given the length of some of the Par 4's and 5's on various courses the advantage definitely goes to carrying a 3W versus a Hybrid.  Some Par's 3 cannot be reached with a Hybrid but can be with a 3W.  Most shots where a hybrid would be preferable, although rare, can be accomplished by using the punch shot with the 3W.   You'll find if you look at what's in the bags of different Legends and TM's a large majority carry the 3W.

I've played this way for well over a year with no issues; started doing such as a Pro here.  The extra wedge is a much more advantageous benefit than carrying a Hybrid.  The Ping 3W is the easiest to shape shots with due to the high trajectory.  With the new Callaway balls the 3W actually stops better on the green than a 3 or 4 iron when backspin is used.

Bottom-line, it's your preference and what you feel comfortable with.  Not everything works for everyone.  Only way to find out for sure is to experiment, as so many of us have done, until you find what works best for you.

We've strayed from the topic ofwedges, but with the idea of adding a third wedge at the expense of a wood, personally I drop either the 3W or the Hybrid depending on the specific course or specific 9 holes I'm playing.

Maybe for legends it's obvious that the hybrid has to go, but playing from the tour master tees I can count on the fingers of one hand how many strokes I'll hit with a 3W vs. a hybrid and often the number of fingers is ZERO. For example: back 9 of Oakmont, either 9 of Bethpage (considering the 7th is often reachable with a hybrid and the 13th is usually not reachable in 2 with anything), either 9 of St. Andrew's... So then the hybrid is a better choice - especially as it plays well out of the rough.

PS. For CTTH challenges, obviously, swap out the driver for either the 3W or hybrid, whichever you usually drop for stroke play.... Usually the CTTH will require up to a 3W but never a driver.
