A number of players have voiced this question in the forums. The responses have I think missed the mark perhaps due to widespread lack of understanding regarding how average scores are calculated in real life for the purpose of handicapping. The vast majority of players like myself don't belong to a private club and so have never become acquainted with the handicapping system employed by the USGA and other governing bodies of golf. You need to understand that only the best 10 of your last 20 rounds are used to calculate your average score.

Also, in real life, allowance is made for the difficulty of the course in relation to other courses. A score of 72 on a difficult course like Oakmont would be treated differently than a score of 72 on an easier course like Kiawah.

I don't know for certain if WGT employs exactly the same methods in calculating scoring averages but it appears to be based upon similar principles. A good resource if you want more info on this subject is The Pope of Slope's website or the actual handicapping manual of the USGA.
