There are almost no reviews for the red spiders while on paper they seem pretty good for the price. Also the meter scale with 10, 20 and 50... seems great. Also there are topmodels available at high levels (L94 and L101) so its possible to upgrade further along in the game.

Could anyone who tested the TM red spider (L77) post his experiences (pros/cons vs other putters)?

had the red spider (L77) for a few weeks and find it very easy to use. previously had rossa, max meter and Nike putters. the red spider is especially good on longer putts, one drawback can be under hitting on the shorter putts with the ten foot meter but other than that I can't really find much to moan at

    Thanks Seve,

Is the red spider L77 the same as the Nike L77?

I read reviews that the Nike had the same specs and also was short on puts under 10ft.

It's a well know fact the virtually All putters come up a bit short 10F and under (always add 2%).

Imo the best 2 choices for you would be the Versa 70 followed by the Max Control at level 80 (if you have to have more scales or scales are important to you).  I always map out my putters so it wouldn't matter if I had a 2F scale or a 500F scale.  So imo putter scale is not relevant.

Owned both the Versa 70 and 96.  Each are exceptional putters.  I had the Max Control too and some of my friends said I putted better with it than the 96 Versa. Good luck!

    Cheers.  Sean

Another vote for the Versas. Used the l70 for a long time, the l96 for a bit shorter time, and now have the l 98 Beer Can Opener, er, Sabertooth. All great putters, and progressively better, each one. With the Sabertooth, I now expect to make the 15 to 20 footers. I don't always make them, of course, but the putter gives me the consistency to expect it if I read the break correctly.

And yes, the higher level putters do tend to hit the shorter ones a bit short. Just something you need time with the club to learn and compensate for.

Thanks for your responses (Sean, K7 and Jim...).

I read a lot about the versa L70 and most say it's top of the bill. Now using the spider L19 and thinking of upgrading. I have just rented the Spider L66. The scale of 15 seems odd to me (I am a European guy who likes the decimal system). So on paper I fancy the Red Spider L77. The only thing is that all veterans here reviewed the 'old' putters and rarely anybody placed comments on the red spiders (L51, L77, L94 and L101). Are they inferior to Versa, Sabertooth and Max or have the just not been tested/reviewed properly?

That's what I meant about looking at the scales. One uses 15-30-60  and the other uses 10-20-30. You'd probably fare better with the 10-20-30.

The Spider had a knock on it since the beginning. The original Spider was one of the worst putters here and I'm not sure that perception ever changed.
