Can anyone explain how the %'s work when the ball is in the rough? I assume if it says 25%-30%, that would mean if I had my 100 yard wedge in my hand and hit it full power and dead on the center line the furtherest I could hit would be 75 yards (with zero wind and level with the flag of course). I find that part of the game very inconsistent and frustrating and it's probably because I'm doing it wrong. Any help is much appreciated.

not really, it depends on the club.  For example, the 20-30% rough almost doesn't affect wedges, but it really hurts the carry distance for long irons and woods (hybrids are great out of it though)

It affects the carry distance more than the total distance too, since there is less spin coming out of the rough.

Best thing to do is hit some test shots, and write down what your carry distance is out of each lie for each club.
