There are only 3 wedges who have a 5.0 spin.  Max Wedge 52 degree.. The Max Wedge 56 degree, and the Max Wedge 60 degree.

One thing that I have noticed is that with no backspin on the ball, it will still backspin.  Once you apply the smallest amount of backspin it draws the ball back a huge amount.

What I think is happening is that the 5.0 backspin on these clubs isn't linear, it's exponential.  These 3 clubs are the only ones with a 5.0 backspin, so it's possible that it has escaped your notice.

The other thing of note is that if  you put forward spin on the ball with these clubs, it does not register on the greens.  Basically it only takes away from the back spin the club normally produces.

All of the +5 backspin wedges are available at level 52, which tells me that they are not used in the upper level game, so it might escape notice.

This is just my opinion, but it seems like the +5 Backspin is doing more backspin that intended.

I guess that's why they're named "Spin." The higher level Max Meter 64 degree I use has a spin of 3.5, and that's plenty.

No, they're doing what's intended. You have to be very cautious with backspin on those wedges. A (very) little dab will do ya.

If you're hitting into the slope of a green, all wedges will tend to back up unless you apply a little top spin.

I do play against quite a few Legends who use those wedges, so they do work when played properly. But yeah, that's more spin than I would find useful.

Sm0knGun: This is the weekend that you have been waiting for. Load your bag with all sorts of wedges, get a  bunch of free white rocks, put the game in practice mode, and head to a course. Once there play until you are 100 yards or less from the green and then  start taking wedge shots. Since all you have in your bag are wedges, use the mulligan option, Take the same shot with one wedge and then another and another. With the free ball you know exactly how each wedge affects carry and landing because there are no ball effects. Get closer to the green and try various shots including pitches and flops.

Now choose matched wedges and put them in with your preferred ball and play a round. This is the time to experiment. A dedicated player can learn a lot on free rental weekend.

Also, at your level, you might consider getting rid of the hybrid and using three (3) wedges. The iron set that you have gives you enough distance so that the only reason you carry the hybrid is to play out of heavy rough. With your skill set, you will be using the third wedge more than the hybrid.

None of the clubs are linear, that is common knowledge AND a source of great frustration for those that think it is. That was determined years ago.

That would mean it actually does register by offsetting the back spin. This is how you control the shot landing.
