This one really gets British football fans riled up. Because we own the game so it should be what we want to call it, not “soccer”. You should really try to avoid using the word “soccer” in the presence of a British person because they may just slap you. There are so many arguments that could be presented as to why football should be called “football” and not “soccer”. The sport is recognised around the world whereas nobody really gives a crap about American football apart from Americans. The funniest argument I've ever seen though is that it should be called “football” because it involves a foot and a ball. American football on the other hand mostly involves carrying something egg-shaped in your hands and therefore should be called “Handegg”.

Hmmmm, I can easily distinguish the difference when referencing "futbol" and "football", not difficult at all....and be careful, Stan Kronke who owns Arsenal, also owns a "football" team. and a "soccer" team last time I looked LOL

I am old enough to remember when "soccer" was still acceptable.  Nowadays it must be football LOL.............I am guilty of being self righteousness (again LOL) by reminding Australians of the "correct"  term, and that even the TV channels now call it football here....

Got so confusing here...Football is replacing the term soccer, but footy (short for football elsewhere) is very much rugby league here (v rugby union), and the term soccer just got dropped in the UK and elsewhere.

English. We're talking English here. English. Such a simple language. In my small part of Canada-(New Brunswick)-which by the way, is the only official bilingual province in the country, we have 3 difference types of the French language and if you speak to the people who speak these types of French language , they say the other guys are speaking the language  wrong. lol.  We have the so called  "Quebec" french--which is from the province of Quebec, the so called "Acadian" french---which is from the Northern part of New Brunswick, and the so called "Albert County" french---which is from the southern part of the province. Albert County french is not really a french language, but these "red neck" people would just as soon run you out of the county than listen to you try and communicate with them.
