Scoring comes from Putting and short game. WGTICON and Bolloxinbruges have the best shortgame play I've ever been lucky enough to play with.
I have no doubt either of them could Intentionally miss every fairway ( 0 percent fairways hit) and they could still shoot below par.
There is a drill I used to play with a friend in match play for us both to get better with scoring clubs (wedges n putter)
We would play match play and Intentionally miss every green on approach shots. Sometimes we played where we'd pick a bunker, and try to aim our approach shots there.
Play a few rounds like that, ( having to chip, pitch, flop, or punch) from trouble every hole and it will have an incredible benefit to your scoring average.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your attitude towards the game and striving to get better. Wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.
