DuFussMcGoo: Is it safe for me to disable my computer's VPN?
You may be in the wrong thread to ask this. However, it is never a bad thing to post here, making this thread jump to the top, so we are not always bombarded first by TLW!!!
Enabling VPN mask your true ISP address. and adds additional security from sites obtaining personal data, especially on a public network. Notwithstanding, some sites, such as WGT wish you to disable the VPN as a means to allow them to prevent multi-accounts from the same household.
I imagine the request to disable VPN, to take surveys, is allegedly to prevent one person from taking the same survey multiple times. However, it may also allow the site to gather personal information while, or after, you take the survey.
I would prefer to forgo surveys if they require me to disable VPN.
Google provides "When you disable your VPN, all of your internet traffic becomes visible to your ISP. The websites you visit also see your real IP address, which is tied to your physical location. And if you're on public Wi-Fi, hackers connected to the same network can see and even steal your online data"
