  Because losing the match gives you a bronze apparel box which is worthless. You need to win in order to be awarded a Silver, or ideally Gold or Platinum box in order to be any chance of getting anything good.

  wrong again the level 10 shirt adds about 22 yards, and the further you drive , makes for an easier approach.

  Several people have already pointed out it's not always about the apparel.  Sometimes it's because Showdown puts you there, or it's about the daily/weekly goals WGT gives you. i.e. "Win 10 Games in Chelsea". 

  If someone who is getting their feelings hurt by losing a low level coin room would like to start gifting me the 170 credits per week I'd lose from not doing goals + the credits/coins and free balls I'd lose by not playing Showdown, I'd consider quitting the coin rooms all together.

  Second, if you are that guy who is level 96... what do you get out of beating up a much lower-level player to win 4500 coins? Is it like an ego thing? I don't get it.
  

   

  So you are aware enough to realize that you were randomly paired with a much higher level player, but just can’t apply the same logic to the higher ranked player? They didn’t choose to play you or any other lower level player, either. Since you all hate quitters, what choice does the higher ranked player have…let you win?  You don’t get it? Try harder.
