I'm back after a long hiatus... 2.5 years... getting addicted again... addicted again... loving it.  I only know 3 courses though... BPB, Kiawah and now Oakmont (especially back 9).

I got my Tour Preferred irons when they were the coolest new clubs on WGT... highest spin rating at the time.  That's why I own them even though they are above my Level.  Coming back, I'm realizing that medium trajectory totally sucks... well... it sucks on BPB and Oakmont for sure...  maybe med traj is good for SA and George to cut through wind??... doubt it.

So I'm considering the L37 Burners that are med/high traj... and i'm also entertaining the idea of the high lofted Tour Pro set... (yes you heard right).  I'll also need the R11 210 yard hybrid (high loft) and possibly a 220-227 high loft 3 wood if I go to lower distance irons.

On the Tour Pro set... I'd need to rent them first and see if they can actually stop at all with full backspin and the callaway balls.  I love the idea of tossing these in the bag... hehe... but hate it if they can't stop.

I love that my TP irons stick pretty good (7i - PW like darts)... but the long irons only stick into minimal elevation changes with no tail wind.

My main question is... should I just suck it up and wait for high loft irons to become available to me at L59 or will I actually be able to stop a long iron on greens like Oakmont #15 and several on BPB with the L37 Burners?  I'm sure there's plenty of havock waiting for my med traj on Congressional and Olympic too.  But I haven't played Congressional yet and only briefly goofed around on Olympic to see what it looks like.

I'm fairly good with my current irons... shot a 31 on Oakmont back... BUT couldn't break it until i rented a high loft hybrid and 3 wood... that night I shot a 29.  The value of the higher lofted clubs cannot be overstated.

    Ideas welcomed!  Fire away!

I can't tell about the clubs you mentioned but I imagine that you need all the length & trajectory you can get in your situation (Legend @ lvl 42).

The Raptures are decent clubs (full set @ lvl 48, 48915 XPs).

    You'll hit lvl 59 for the G20s @ 88515 XPs, lvl 83 (high levelG20s) @ 255315 XPs, and there are still miles to go for the R11s (lvl 90 @ 486998 XPs).

Possible solutions are an intermediate set or just a driver and/or a 3WD.
It all depends on your capacity of suffering.

    My 2 €-Cents.

where are you getting the info about lvl and XPs?

Yes possible solution is intermediate set of med/high traj irons like the ones i mentioned.  I just need some advice on whether or not med/high is any better than what I have... will it really be noticeable.

There was a thread "Reference Table: Level - XP" collecting these numbers where I contributed. I have them in a spreadsheet and another user posted a list from 1 to 100 on 03-30-2012, currently on page 6. This is the best link I can find (to a quotation of that post).

Trajectory: The higher the better, that's my knowledge.

Your in a tough place being a very low xp points level legend.

IMO you really need the l79 burner irons to compete well from the legend tees. I upgraded from the old g10s (which are better than your current clubs) and wow there was a huge difference. Shaved of strokes almost instantly.

I feel if you do upgrade your clubs now or soon you will want/need to upgrade again when at a higher level. So another option for you is to buy level boosts up to l60 and then maybe xp boosts at a well thought out time to get up to level as fast as possible.  Yes it will cost but so will buying two sets of clubs instead of one.

Just a thought to put to you, it may be a better way.

Stick with what you've got until L59

Thanks for the input guys.  technically, I have L62+ clubs and I'm only L42... was L30 just 10 days ago.  So I can't really "complain"... I'm just wishing now that I had bought the old G10's that had higher trajectory.

I am in a sticky spot L42 legend.  But what is WGT supposed to do when I'm shootin 29 on the back 9 at Oakmont.  hehehehe :-)

None of you said so specifically, but didn't refute my apprehension that the med/high traj is not really worth a whole new set of irons... irons that would be "lower" in level than my current L63 TP's.

I had the L32 R11 irons from L32-59. The 5-PW stop decently, even with cheap (82c) balls. The 3 and 4 irons don't stick at all though.

I'd rent the K15's. Someone else here gave a great review of them recently, and said even the 3 and 4 stick better than the med/high loft given in the pro shop descriptions would suggest.

At L59 I switched to the G20 irons. They hold the greens a lot better than the L32 R11's. But I also had to upgrade to the L33 callaway(s) for those holes with severe uphill approaches.

So I'd try out the K15's. Or if you can wait, wait until L59 and get the G20's.

I agree blindly - trajectory counts more than a few yards of length.

In addition, chris' approach to the boosters is the first thought where they might have a qualification if you r in a hurry.

Thanks alosso.  Yes, trajectory matters more than a few yards of length.  But is the jump from med traj to med/high, really significant enough to warrant a change.

Yes, the boosters suggestion from chris is a very good one... as the cost would be the same (or cheaper) as purchasing two or even three sets of irons by the time i get to L79+.

I'm in no hurry to try to compete with the top players... lol.  I have about 350 ranked rounds played and less than 50 tourneys where they have 4-10x+ that.  For ex bollox has 4000 ranked rounds and 3000 tourneys played.  LOL.

So not in a mad rush hurry (although who doesn't want to get to L90 fast), but more or less just like to strategize about how to get the most out of the available equipment compared to what I have in the bag currently.
