The scorecard says 248 yards and  its down 62 ft.

248 -21=227. Play to this yardage, more times than not a 3i with R11s. Wind in your face will help knock the 3W down but any helping wind will carry the iron, even cross winds.

tx YJ...question...on downhill shots, I usually subtract 1 yard of distance for every 4 feet downhill ...your math implies a 1/3 ratio...?

uphill, i usually add 1 yard for every 3 feet of up elevation...

i use the same 3' elevation = +/- 1 yard of distance that YJ is suggesting.

I was sure that a 3 iron was just right until This happened.

Not really sure what happened any ideas?

Almost the same thing happened to me once but it hit the sand and stopped.

I call it the John Daly effect.

Well, the Burner 3-iron (rated 220 yards) should come in pin-high, but the R11 you were using is rated 225 yards, which gets you near the bunker, and you had a tailwind, which gets you over, especially using long-distance Nike balls. The rest of the damage was from the bad luck of hitting the downsloping rough behind the trap.
