some pretty astute comments on this thread .. most sensible thread i've read on these forums .. it seems to me people are spoiled & don't always have perspective on what a really great game they are part of ..

Exactly Chris ... Now not to belabor my point from the last post ... but but I was thinking of all of the variables that go through my mind before I play a shot in real golf. .... Some of which are incorporated into WGT but most which are not.      Real golf is infinitely harder than WGT is at this point in time.

Think about it .... how would the scores be if on every WGT shot the player would have to incorporate in addition to wind, club, distance meter, spin and where you want the shot to go.

    1. Grip position on the club (strong / weak or several variations of each
    2. Foot position
    3. Ball Position within your stance
    4. Swing finish ... (out or over to promote draw or fade)
    5. Draw or fade on the ball ... (i.e. play the dot left or right .. not just up / down for spin)
    6. What type of like you have --- uphill, downhill, side hill below or above your feet
    7. etc. etc. etc.

Now imagine that every one of these decisions has an impact on how far the ball will go, where it will where the ball will land and what it will do once it does land.

When I think of it this way .... i'm shocked the scores aren't even lower than they are :)

    +1 chris 5214,

Shame a player, CIB can't take this aboard instead of moaning all the time when he gets beat, or when he doesn't score  54.

Whatever they do the cream will always rise to the top. ( Unless they have us all homogenised)

    CommanderIan:

Am I alone in thinking this?

I played heavily until about a year ago, then recently came back.  Rarely did you see ready-go winners breaking 30 on 9 holes now it looks like the top 15 are all under 30!

I'm sure WGT is trying to figure out more ways to make it more realistic, but wow just shocked!

Great game still!  I just doubt I'll ever be in the money again though!

What you have to keep in mind is the courses have not changed much (a few pin placements) but both clubs and balls have gotten way better.

I think the point is being missed entirely.

I think not. The equipment have become better, the "pro's" are becoming more and more familiar with the courses, how to calculate wind and spin. They have notes for each hole. As lvietri said - real golf has so many parameters that is simply impossible to simulate without very special equipment, so the scores are pretty realistic when you take that into account. WGT could make the scores go up by adding some (more) random parameters, but would we really like that? If we calculate everything perfectly and hit a ding, do we want WGT to mess that shot up so it goes into the water?

No, the satisfaction in this game is when you ding a shot and it ends up exactly where you had planned. Take that away and the game is suddenly just a game of chance and I do not think anyone would be happy about it. This is always a dilemma with simulations - high realism demands special equipment. In this case, nothing less that a full set of clubs with the same weight and balance as our virtual ones would do. These clubs would need to be packed with sensors, just as the wireless USB ball we'll hit. The ball would probably have less durability than a Nike...

Would be a lot cheaper, and more realistic, to play real golf. Outside.

Maybe I've hit an old never with some members, but again you've misunderstood the original post.  I mentioned the scores were getting unrealistic - which they are.  49 is not realistic no matter how you spin it - neither is 50 or anything in the 50's for that sake, or even 62.  I also mention the game is great, and in further posts that is by far the best game out there.  Then I mention how intense the competition has become.  That's it.  I'm not knocking the game, or the programmers, or the players, or anything...

I understand with practice you get better, I understand with better equipment you get better, I understand that it is virtually impossible to make this game exactly like golf (as I also mentioned in a further response). However, no one can tell me WGT is not trying to make this game - somehow - more realistic all the time.  Whether it is bug fixes, enhancements to the game play, different logic for the tiers, etc...  Otherwise they would have dumped their developers.

no, you're not the only one to think that. scores have become totally unreal and ridiculous. I cant think we can shoot 49 or 55 in real golf. All profesionals will tell u, it's impossible. in PGA, the best score is 59, three or four have done it in history, and not even Nicklaus, the guy who won 18 grand slams.
