US OPEN CHAMPION:  Some guy named Webb Simpson, a total unknown even to most golf fans.

VIRTUAL US OPEN CHAMPION:  One of only a handful of players.

    ADVANTAGE:  US OPEN!!!

One might say that the best players here should be the ones winning the competition.  But it doesn't happen in real life.  Simpson is by no means one of the best, it was simply his day.  Whilst the qualifying is as it is, this can never happen on WGT.  Allow only one attempt at one qualifying round, bring the scores to something more realistic and I reckon I would stand a chance too, but I'm never going to shoot sub-60.  It should be about who makes the least mistakes, not who can get their shots within 2yds on every hole after 3 million attempts.  Did you see the pros getting their shots that close every hole?  Or did they say "I messed that shot up, I'm going to start again"?  I think not!

I don't agree that by making the scores higher it would still be the same names on the leaderboard.  Of course some of them would be there, but there would be some unknowns thrown in the mix too.  And who knows, it might just be their day.  And why shouldn't it be!!!

it all comes down to the more ball life that gets wasted on qualifiers...then the more balls that will need to be bought = $$$$$$$$$. good business acumen is all it comes down to.

that to me seems the main reason qualifying stages will not be changed and I don't blame WGT for having it like that....anyone with a decent business sense would do the same.

The deviation i got for 2 of the 4 rounds in the nation tournament (from pro and master tees too) was enough to make me realise there is no chance in doing well in tournaments anyway.  Clubs go from 4.5 to 1 precision and you get shots which you aim 20 yards left of tree leave your club 20 yards right and hit tree, so its not who's the "best" golfer on this game, its the lucky pool of players who get to play rounds with no deviation (could they be randomly pre-selected??)

I really enjoyed attempting to qualify; wgt's release of this course really added to my own enjoyment of the real event.

How do wgt players feel Olympic compares to CCC?

Rory's "walk in the park" last year @ CCC resulted in pretty sharp teeth this year @ Olympic for pga players.  I don't really see the same comparison in the two wgt versions of these courses.

btw, Furyk's duck hook pull on 16 tee is proof that my hundreds of "lost balls" there coulda/shoulda/woulda been found! (just kidding)

Can't say I agree at all. Re: the qualifier I played it several times and each time I found no random silly shots taking place other than the ones I hit myself by missing the ding. In the Nation 4 rounder it was the same. Each day was consistent except for the mistakes I made myself by missing the ding. My scores reflect my own ability and nothing more. IMO...it's not that hard  to admit.

This deviation thing is silly. It is not the lucky few. It is the few that pay attention, clear their caches, use chrome, have the newest computers, and don't have a ton of things running while playing...and then hit the ding! I have never hit below 60 on firefox, because it isn't as fast as chrome, nor have I shot sub-60 when I was running tons of other stuff and didn't have my cache cleared...and I certainly haven't while I was tired and thought I was hitting 3 more clubs than I was lol.

The point is: everyone gets deviations. Some are big, some are small, some are almost none at all...it is completely random, and I have never seen a round go by (even on Bollox's youtube channel) without some kind of rather large deviation. The great players suck it up and make the putt!!!

    My 2 1/2 cents
