If low AVG in the 60 are being considered, ( at the bottom of the list ) I would like to be in.

    Thanks

No Les, it is only that nobody really knows some of us and our game and batted for us. You and I know that on any given day Chop, for instance can beat us or lose to us - but it is who you know bud.

Not sure what you mean Sanco..I've never played a round with anyone organizing this event..but i'm sure the bribe money didn't hurt much :)

    Thanks everybody!

What an incredible field of WGT All-Stars!

At this point, there are a half dozen invites still floating around out there and just as many alternates who will gladly fill the shoes of anyone who declines the invite.

Since the open is still going on for a few more days, we'll give the invites a few more days to confirm, then fill any remaining spots with the alternates.

I will let the alternates know ASAP.

Please, no more requests. The field, for all intents and purposes, is now full.

    Good luck to all!

    MBaggese:

    That's incorrect sir.

It was decided (even suggested by a Dev) to use Genorbs top 100 Legend avg list and send invites to the top 50 or so "non-Dev's" on the list.

We don't "know" 95% of the players (other than by reputation maybe).

I guess we could have had a 500 player MP KO Tourney, but pretty sure Lou wanted to get this in before next year US Open;)

I can vouch for Geordieles as well.  One heckuva player and was my captain and teammate in the WGTLS Ryder Cup a few turns ago.

No system in selecting the best player is perfect.  Somebody butt always gets hurt.

The big problem with using Fabian's list IMHO, is that more than a few of those Legend averages are low because the only 18 hole ranked rounds they play are the NKF Cadillac/Sun Safe Classic rounds with multiple starts.  Not naming any names here, but you know who you are.  I've never even entered into any of those tourneys (frankly I hate tourneys with unlimited attempts and only grind my teeth when trying to qualify for the US Open  and The Open), but full disclosure... I do play my fair share of Legend RG Tourneys that are set on the forward tees, but I'm guessing it's 1 in 5 to 10.

Conversely, there are guys who play nothing but Alt Shots, MPs, Challenge MPs, and they couldn't give a hoot about how low or high their averages are.  Of course their averages don't move 1/100th of a point if all they play are MPs.  Since MP is the format of this challenge, one would think you want battle tested MP-ers that don't crap their pants when they have to drop a 20 footer to push the match to the next hole.

Alas, this discussion prolly should have taken place before the invites were sent out (my apologies if the discussion DID take place), and we pretty much got what we got.

    Which ain't bad ;)

Well, you're 100% right. No denying it.

Still, given the resources available, I think it has worked out very well.

The list on page one looks like a WGT who's who. I think Lou, Mike, myself, and just about everyone else knew there would be some hurt feelings. Obviously we tried to avoid that, but it's inescapable.

We may be a little bumped and bruised after the invitation part of this thread, but I keep going back to that list and think, "Jeezus, what a group of great players"

A discussion of what "The Best" means would probably have been helpful. You're right. But I've never seen a discussion of that type ever come to a consensus opinion, so maybe it would have inflamed the situation. I don't know.

In the end, we got where we needed to be and we (all of us) did it with a very high standard of friendliness. I, for one, am pretty impressed with how little distraction there has been.

Regardless, I would put this group of 48 (ish) against any group in the history of WGT and I think we win 100% of the time.

Well done all of you. Everyone on this list deserves to be here, even if other deserving players didn't make it.

    Let's get the Devs.
