I was in the online discussion MRWGT hosted Friday and want to thank him for his explanations to a lot of good questions.

During the discussion he mention about making some changes to the games for more, "realistic" scores. He stated he also did not enjoy seeing scores in the 50's as most of us don't.

I have a concern for these changes though. I hope in the process of bringing the scores back into a realistic number say in the mid 60's this does not put the rest of us in the mid 70's. I would like to see the fields evened up some as opposed to just making the courses harder so higher numbers will be posted. If it's just a change to the courses then the same gaps in scoring will be there, just at a higher number.

    Any ideas??

I always said you should be careful what you wish for.

It doesn't matter how hard the game is, it'll still be the best players shooting the best scores.

Sauce for the goose.  If conditions are changed such that players who normally shoot in the 50's begin to shoot in the 60's, then players who shoot in the 60's should be shooting in the 70's.  The gaps are par for the course, so to speak.

It seems obvious to me that if changes are made such as those who are shooting in the mid 50 are then shooting 10 strokes more, it will be roughly the same for everyone. You will add 10 strokes to everyone in average.

The only way to avoid this, is to add a lot of random parameters. Then from one round to another you will shoot 60 or 70 depending on if you got lucky or not. But that would be a sad turn. I would prefer to play dice then. But if the game is still based on skill and knowledge, then any change made will roughly shift up or down globally all the scores without changing much the present hierarchy.

I really don't get this. You want the fields to even up. What about skill then... If today one guy is shooting 5 strokes less in average then another guy, why should they shoot the same from one day to another because of some changes made in the game??

I don't also get the philosophy behind this. You want from one day to another that, due to some mystery changes in the game, everyone are shooting roughly the same? So everyone would be equally good? I don't think it's true for real golf, why should it be true here?

EXACTLY.  If you make the game more difficult, the top players will still end up at the top.  If you can barely break into the mid 60's now, why do you think that WGT should make it easier for you, and harder for top Legends just to, "even it out."

i hope they were talking about draw/fade & ball lie (slope) features .. and NOT some mystical "physics" that turns the game into a crapshoot .. it shud be based on skill, not luck, period .. that is what makes this game great .. the skill development factor .. don't mess with that WGT

I guess what I am saying is that I would like to see, "the top players", as you call them play against the other top players. The average ones play against each other, and so on. Right now a legend competes against another legend regaurdless of his average or record, etc

    Handicaps??

If they are working on weeding out the sand-baggers like they talked about then why couldn't a handicap system be put into place??

Ahhhh, if we only lived in a perfect world.

I don't enter allot of tournaments, especially pay ones because I know I have no chance to compete with someone who plays this game on another level... I'll bet I'm not the only one.

As I understood it, adding more options like draw/fade, stance, slope of lie, etc. is exactly what they had in mind. It's a matter of "turning on" those elements.

What about a voluntary tier for those who want all the add ons, which you opt in to. Anyone who is at the top of the game is likely to be looking for another challenge any way so should maybe relish the challenge while the rest who struggle to get by as it is can look forward to that when they get better.

You hear all the time that people who score really well are not bothered about their averages so the new challenge of coping with all the new ding dongs shouldn't worry them about losing the low average.

Maybe you'd have to have seperate competitions for them people so you keep a level playing field where credits are involved and maybe this would solve the new upper tier thing so people like me can still aim at getting to legend without finding suddenly that theres yet another level after that
