Hole 3, 239 Yds down wind @ 9mph,  3 wood (TM R11) off the tee (max on that club is 227yds), I used approx 20% less power off max, striking bottom of ball and it flies a full 253 yds over the back of the green.

    Could someone explain why please?

    LOL....

Seriously though,  don't forget to take into account the severe downhill green.  Don't know what the elevation change is from your tees, but the legend tees, it's something like 60 feet or so.  Divide the elevation by 3 and subtract (since it's downhill) that number in yards, with that in mind, rework your yardage for that shot and it should be pretty close to what happened.

In a favorable wind situation, a 3 iron might be too much club so........a 3 wood, even choking up, obviously down hill like that, just amplifys the distance more with the wind.

I always have to play that hole with a 3Hybrid

210yd club unless it is a 14mph headwind.

The effect of variables on a shot's distance, specifically wind and elevation, seems to increase exponentially depending upon the length of the shot being played..

Also, some shots just play longer or shorter than the rated distance..ie, The approach shot into Olympic #9 seems to play about 3-4 yards longer than is indicated on the screen..

I use the same 3w and in that hole with srixons(2dot distance) balls with 1/8 less of power and full bs is enough to land it at the distance of the pin. But with tail wind it could fly miles...

I use my 3 iron range 215yds in all wind. Elevation is 59ft down what means almost 20 yds, and from mastertee distance is 234 yds, get green every time, sometimes very close, depends on wind! Headwind i add some bs to get more distance, side wind less bs or no spin.Tailwnd i reduse power on club, to avoid going wtf!!

Yes +1 on that egonweber - the green is substantially lower than the fairway and tee box.

It is a difficult green at the best of times to stick on but you must take the above into account.

You also need to take into account the ball flight of a 3 wood is designed for distance not a stick and stop type of club at all !

Actually the r11 3w stick and stop any time in that green, high trayectory, the green below level by miles... the ball falls from the sky like a raindrop...
