My worst problem lower my average right now is wind approaches. I've got the chart and can calculate for/against distances. If I come up with, say, 15 mph sideward to the hole, how do I figure how much to lead. How do I tell how much 7 yards sideways is on the green? My scores are much lower when I average inside 10 ft. which I can do in low wind, but 15to 20 feet is a 2 putt at best.

Tap ins drive me nuts. Extra stroke for nothing.

Tap ins are not that bad. Cristiano Ronaldo loves tap ins.

How I got a feel for it was setting up practice rounds with various wind conditions and aiming directly at the stick and taking note of how far off the different winds affected flight vs different distances.

At least you got the up and down yardage figured out. I am at a loss and I am guessing all the time. I love when I guess right :) .

Sidewind has me stumped when it is over 25 mph . HELPPPPPPPP. I guess years of experience helps . Ill give it another year :)

A good place to start is one foot for every mph of wind speed. This works at yardages between 50 and 165. After that you just have to play with it and learn what works. Pretend that the flag stick is 7 feet tall and measure by the stick. Big wind is tough for all of us.

Keep plugging away, it's the only way.

The amount of drift is affected by many things:

    • Distance of shot
    • Type of club
    • Back or Top spin
    • Type of shot Full, Punch, Pitch......
    • Trees and Terrain
    • Trajectory of shot
    • Hitting or Missing the "Ding"

So good luck we all struggle with it

Here is a little method I have come up with that has helped me a great deal. It's not perfect, I REPEAT IT"S NOT PERFECT! (so please don't throw things at me if you see me on the greens) Let's use a 20mph left to right crosswind. Your lie is 150 yds. from the pin. Go to the zoom shot of the green, put the mouse on the aiming target as you would to set up any shot. while holding down the left mouse button, look at the little map on the lower right corner and drag the aim point into the wind until the right corner of the triangle is just touching the flag stick. Leave it there and go back to the normal view and shoot. You can scale this up or down  as needed for stronger on weaker winds. And it seems to work for any approach from 200 yds. down to  120 yds. from 120 yds. down to 50 yds. use about 3/4 of the triangle and for shots under 50 yds. about 1/2 the triangle. Once you fine tune this for your clubs and balls it should get you pretty darn close to the pin everytime.

I'll be giving that technique a trial, bd.

Meanwhile, I've had good success recently using the reverse green camera to set up aim. You need to have the aerial cameras option turned on in game settings, to be able to select the different views. At 150 yds I'd give 5mph x-wind a flagstick length, 10mph, 2 flagsticks from hole, etc.

Scale the offset up or down for actual distance of approach. For a 200 yd approach in 20mph I might aim wide about half the width of the green (most courses - SA is special case, lol).
