Do any of you actually have any experience moderating large forums? The forum software is a definite issue. The search function is near to useless and many of the problems of duplication etc come down to that.

I'm also guessing that there's no staff forum or coordination between moderators which explains why there is often an inconsistent approach adopted. The most important areas for any moderation team are good communication, a transparent system for dealing with issues that arise fairly and setting out firm expectations for what you will and won't accept.

At the moment threads that should really have a staff response in them are all too often ignored. I don't know if you're operating on an "everyone reads everything" approach but you might need to consider a sub-forum based approach or a post-report system that generates threads in a private area (so staff can see the action taken as well)

I realise that I'm probably patronising you all but I've run a large sports-based forum for over 10 years and know what I'm talking about.

Yep, we definitely have room for improvement.

Yep, that's the goal, as stated in my post.

"ignored" would imply that we are not reading them. We read every post, but we do not have the staff to reply to every post.

    Thanks for the input :)

How about having a chat with Mark over at WGTLS?  One look at his board should tell you something.

Ding, ding, ding!  Marc has it right.

Batman, one thing I think should really happen is to add a (complaint) section to the forum wall.  I know we have the bug log, and we have submit bug on the game play page, but we need something better.  Then, when WGT reads a complaint that is located in, lets say "Country Club Corner", it can be moved so those of us that actually care to help others or respond to valid posts don't have to sift through loads of cow patties... I still think all the "this game sucks", "I quit", and "wtf" threads should be deleted.

Another suggestion is to "task" a particular moderator to a couple of forum sections. This will cut down confusion between moderators, as well as give each moderator a "specialty" in responding to requests or whatnot.
