The instant replay system used to be quite generous in terms of distance from hole(up to 2 yds away), and it was decided by many of us here that it slowed gameplay down considerably, so the system was augmented to only provide replays for those shots that were inside 1yd. Trust me, you don't want replays on shots further away than that. You'd be surprised at how much longer a round takes, and it's already a long game in multiplayer, especially with 3 or 4 players. Another issue is that it provides the system with another event to crash on.
Perhaps just adding the ability to save shots in multiplayer would be a happy compromise.
