Maybe it's a stupid idea, but the AVG score could also change with a smaller number of birdies. For example, if the score at the end of the course is -3 or -4, the AVG score could change. After all, not everyone is able to achieve 7 or more birdies to improve their AVG score.

It does. it will go up and down regardless of what you shoot. If yours isn’t changing, you’re probably about to move to the next tier.

You may wish but it won't happen because it has been this way "forever". (Changes cost programming money and cause errors)

WGT's average is a numerical average of scores played, and you have to play 62s (or 31 on nine holes) to have that counted. It may be a grind but that's intended.

    Have fun!!

I think you misunderstand what the word "average" means.  It's a mathematical calculation based on your final scores for each ranked round you play.  Just keep playing and improving your skills.  As you do, your scores will drop and your average will improve.

Average score lowering is one slow, long, hard slog. At least for me it has been.  I can shoot a 10 under on 18 holes / 5 under on 9 holes and my average drops a paltry 0.01 point.

I contacted Support about this, and the response I got was not only vague but confusing. Ultimately, I was directed to search this forum. More vagaries and confusion awaited me here and I never got a direct answer.

I inquired because I have been at Legend for over five years and have only been able to lower it to just over 64. I would need to get to 60, or so I believe before I can reach Tour Legend! As far as making Champion or Tour Champion, I have no hopes whatsoever. But then, to be honest I am not trying that hard. And obviously, I'm not that good of a player.

However, I know doggone well that there are many players who have circumvented the process of lowering their averages yet have progressed to the upper tiers. Example: when I view my opponents' stats and see that a Tour Champion has an average score 150.00 and has played only a very few, if any ranked games, it raises a big question in my mind. I even once IMed one during play and the response I got was quite indignant.

So, I formulated a theory, and I don't think it qualifies as being "tin-hat". Players who have low (or no) number of ranked games played and are at Legend or above are WGT paid / compensated employees. I know this for a fact because I once played against another opponent with questionable stats whose username was "IncreaseProfits". I am not BSing. I even IMed him about it, and he replied, "It's what I do." That player's account has long since been deactivated, so don't bother to fact-check me.

I'm hoping that one day I will wake up to find that just like magic, I have advanced to a higher tier, simply because of the number of ranked games I've played. But I sure won't be holding my breath...

Tons of players have "circumvented" the old way of lowering their average to go up in Tier.  It's from playing all coin games (or at least mostly all coin games).  They have played A TON of coin games, beat players of higher Tiers on a regular basis, and have a fairly high win percentage in the coin rooms overall.

The exact algorithm for moving up this way is unknown, but it's well known (and acknowledged by WGT) that you can advance using this coin room system and there's nothing nefarious or secretive about it.  They are not paid or endorsed WGT shills, just really good players who chose to spend the majority of their time in the coin rooms versus grinding out 9 or 18 hole Ranked Rounds.

@BlackBogey: I appreciate your response and am open with much doubt to the notion maybe WGT doesn’t game the system by seeding coin rooms with paid players. But as for players gaining tier status by playing coin rooms only, with all due respect I can say that it simply isn’t true. At least for me it’s not. Just have a look at my stats and you’ll see that I’ve played a “ton” of them. It’s basically all I do anyway. My average score doesn’t go down, I’m still at Legend. So that means it’s something else. Out of curiosity I peeked at your stats and your total game count is far lower than mine. And you are a Champion.  I’m sure that you got there by skill alone, too. But there’s plenty of others who found a “cheat”, can play very few total games and skyrocket up the ranks. Being up front here: I wouldn’t mind knowing how to cheat. If a huge number of players are getting away with it, then so can I. All’s fair, you know.

I’m at Legend tier. I levelled up from tour master after a 25 game win streak in the Chelsea coin room. I couldn’t win 25 games in a row there now i’m playing from the Legend tees.

Ive pretty much levelled up every tier so far in coin rooms rather than via ranked rounds.

The best way to guarantee tiering up is by shooting lots of low rounds on “average helper” courses via a country club. I’d never play them as they don’t appeal to me, but loads of higher tiered players have. I know cos i’ve checked out their recent round history when playing them 😁 Nothing wrong with going down that route if you wish. Different strokes for different folks etc

BlackBogey is right, you're not. Coin games don't lower one's avg, but they do tier one up. Plenty of players have tiered up on coin games only. It's not the shear volume of play that counts, it's how many higher tier players you've beaten and how consistently. No offense, but I don't see you being able to tier up via coin games, unless you find a Tour Champ buddy, who will constantly throw games.
