It's has struck me whilst playing WGT, that the game would be far more accesible and popular if the starter clubs were not so poor. I consider myself an average player, but my enjoyment is massively spoilt by the fact the game is loaded against me unless I spend money. This seems unfair for a so called "free" online game. Not suggesting a free player should be equipped with the top range clubs. Far from it. But surely issuing clubs to players joining the site that would allow them to at least be vaguely competitive would lure far more to WGT. I am at pro level yet my best round was one under par on a nine hole round. Not a chance I would be considered a professional on the real circuit. Could there not be a tournament for those using starter clubs?

Contrary to how far you think you hit it in real life, the average drive for most folks is in the neighborhood of 225 yards.  And not nearly as accurate as the ones you hit here.  So actually, for a beginner, you are in much better shape than you would be in real life.

The winner of the open last year at BPB used those clubs. NasaGolfer.

As you can see he shot a 66. Keep in mind that those tees do not show up on BPB anymore.

    Happy hitting

That's one of my points though. As a beginner in real life I wouldn't be considered a pro. If I was competeting against amateurs then the game would be more rewarding. It should be equally as fun for those that play for free as it would be for those that spend money.

Regardless of tier or tenure, what never changes is the manner of play...hit the fairway, hit the green, make a good putt. Simple? Yes & No. Fun? It's all up to you.

WGT has never said that you could compete for free. You can play for free.

You should be happy that there are people paying for clubs and balls, they are the ones that allow WGT to give you your free playing privileges.

If you want to play with friends and have a good time, you can do that to your hearts content.

If you want to win prizes and compete with the elite players of the game, you might have to spend a few bucks.

One night at the movies with a date and popcorn cost more than clubs here.

    Happy hitting

Agreed. But, with starter clubs sometimes it is impossible to reach a fairway. Or a green other than to attempt to save par. I find it impossible to believe someone could shoot 66 with starter clubs on BPB. The course is too long. I was simply saying that either the starter clubs should be at least slightly better. Or all those using them should be ranked together.

BPB was even longer then, those tees are hidden now. Other clubs did not exist.

Believe it or not .....it happened.

To all those saying that 225 is supposed to be a good distance for an amauter golfer, keep in mind that amauter golfers generally don't play on the difficult courses this game has to offer.  They play on courses with a 72-74 course rating, not 77 like the courses this game tends to have.  If they do, it's generally off one of the front tees.  I can understand the buy clubs for more distance motive, it's a good marketing strategy, and 225 is playable in the Hack and Amauter tiers, but by the time you reach the Pro Tier, you're coming off the middle tees and suddenly 225 isn't enough.  Not nessarcarily on St Andrews, but definitely not enough on Bethpage.
