I am typically pretty good at judging distance needed based on variable wind factors. I also have a good system for judging side wind movement of the ball with iron shots where I do not use spin.

The one thing I have been trying to do is figure out is how much extra side wind is needed for shots using spin.

I understand there a several variables that effect this, but if anyone has come up with a system for how much extra wind to play when using spin I would appreciate it. I enjoy and play the game very mathematically.

With sidewinds, I play the shot for its normal distance, regardless of spin.

I agree with both of these players but I would also like to point out that side winds are going to vary. Sometimes they carry and sometimes they knock the shot down. You have to pay close attention to how the needle wavers to determine this. Reverse views usually  give assistance in determining if there will be a distance affect from the wind.

Maybe I didn't speak correctly to understand what I was trying to say.

I'm not talking total vertical distance. I'm referring to horizontal change.

With increased loft the ball is going to move more in the wind.

If I hit a 5 iron in a 18mph 3 o'clock wind 100% spin it is going to move a lot more to the right than if I hit a 5 iron without spin.

That is what I'm trying to figure out. How much additional movement of the cursor I need to factor for the spin/loft effect.

I get where you're going, Buck, and I'd bet someone like Chrisironsbones or Dar Sum would know.

The longer the ball stays in the air, the more it will move. So, the 5i with no spin will move less.

He knows that, he's just trying to determine a correction factor. I can't say myself because I play by feel but that could be the answer-just knowing what to expect and playing the feel for it.

it just takes practice until u get the feel .. dunno whether u ever played the G20's ? .. if u have, i'd use maybe 15-20% more allowance for drift compared to the G20's .. that's if u use full b/spin on approaches most of the time .. which is what i do .. gotta be on ding though, or very close to it ..

Interesting post guys, on a related issue, have heard that useing FULL bs  vs. no bs increases error /deviation to "some" degree on a "slight" ding miss, even if there is NO crosswinds whatsoever. In my experience never really noticed any big difference, thoughts?
