This all reminds me of a story long been told in many different forms. This was from my grandfather.
There once was a scorpion that was no longer happy with his current home. The scorpion decided to travel vowing to find a better home. The scorpion trekked far, and upon the top of a ridge it saw a most wondrous land far down the valley. The scorpion walked down the ridge and when he got to the bottom of the valley he was confronted by a river. Knowing full well he could not swim he began to walk the river’s edge to find a crossing. None were to be seen. He decided to travel a bit more when he came upon a turtle. The scorpion walked up to the turtle, which immediately jumped in the water as to not be stung by the scorpion. The scorpion yells”wait Mr. Turtle, I want to talk to you”. The turtle turned and stopped and asked “What do you want of me but to kill me”? The turtle replied. No Mr. Turtle, I do not want to kill you, I need your help to cross the river for I cannot swim. The turtle said you’re trying to trick me, to which the scorpion replied.” No I am not because If I sting you then I to will die, because I cannot swim”. Thinking this over for a while, the turtle decided that this was sound logic. He swam ashore and said, “Climb on my back and I will take you to your new home”. The scorpion joyfully climbed aboard and off they went. The river was calm and so was the turtle, until, WHAM. The turtle felt the sting of the scorpion’s tail. As they were both sinking, the turtle said “why, why did you kill us both”? To which the scorpion replied, “Because it is my nature”. They both sank to their demise.
We all meet scorpions in our travels. We always will. We cannot change the nature of a scorpion any more than the nature of ALL these morons we meet in this venue. Until which time WGT puts a thread up where these individuals by their own volition hang an orange dot around their necks like an anchor can be put on that thread as a warning to all of us that they are quitters and that is all we need to know. The people that will stay through whacking out of the fescue and the sand box on Kiawah that don’t quit because they are 1 lousy stroke over “under par”, like most tour masters and above. I said most, not all. If a thread would be put up to coral these individuals, it will either force them to better their attitudes or stay in the coral. If this is their nature then put them somewhere where they can see for themselves what they have accomplished.
People will only do what you allow them to do to you. If you learn nothing else in life learn that,,,,,,,,,, and you will never change the nature of a scorpion.
