In honour of the Patron Saint of Gifting (our esteemed LeGeNdCrUsHeR) I'm joining in the fray of Holiday Madness. Up for grabs is a Taylor Made Spider Putter (L19+) and 2 sleeves of Callaway Tour i(z) Balls (Slow Meter) (L1+). This ain't no 'first come, first served', ladies and gents. This will require a little effort..  Emphasis on 'little.'

The rules of the game are as follows:

    (1) Open only to players at level 19 up to and includng level 25. I want the individual who wins this to be a relative newbie who can experience the joys of a club and balls that normally take a bit of time to obtain.

    (2) The followng questions about my favourite golfer must be answered correctly. As question #4 is purely subjective, the Judge (me) reserves the right to consult with the aforementioned Patron Saint of Gifting to determine the winner in the likely event of a tie. That is, of course, if our beloved PSoG agrees with that caveat.

    (3) Entry deadline is 11:59pm Sunday, 12/16/12, WGT time. Easiest posting time to go with.

    Here are the questions:

    1) Who said "Putting is like wisdom - partly a natural gift and partly the accumulation of experience."

    2) What is this persons nickname?

    3) How many majors (by today's standards) did this individual win?

    4) What was their greatest major victory and why?

Again, emphasis on 'little' in the effort department. But I'm hoping you all can have a little fun with this, and I'm hoping someone can experience some newfound joy with upgrades in putter and balls over starters.

Good luck and good golfing. Hope to see you all on the links.

GREAT IDEA, Loose....I was thinking about something exactly along the same lines. (btw, he is one of my top two fav golfers, also)

I think this is the type of spirit we need to see on a more regular basis...not just in December. Let's keep this thing going and help out those that are starting out and coming up. Stay tuned for my post with a similar offer and challenge to Amateurs/Pros.

Best of luck to everyone trying for this one...

    Arnold Palmer

    "The King"

    7 majors

And his greatest win imo, was the 1961 Open as it cemented the tournament as a major with the US players.

Posted 12.54 CET 13/12.2012, but I am having trouble posting it says I'm being moderated ?   Oh well  gr8 questions.

Hi, and Thanks for the offer!

I'm not quite at level 19 (17) but I do think I am in that 'zone' of someone who is growing with this game. I'll try to get to 19 by Sunday, but I'll start with my answers now! :-)

    1) Arnold Palmer
    2) The King
    3) 7 (4 Masters, 1 US Open, 2 British Opens)
    4) I almost went for the '62 Masters that he won in a playoff, but I chose the 1960 U.S. Open. He comes back from a 7 shot deficit that last round (which remains the best final-round comeback by a winner in tournament history).
This final round started with an incredible 6 birdies out of the first 7 holes. His final-round 65 was, at the time, the lowest ever for a U.S. Open champion.
Lastly, many claim that the 1960 Open as the moment when three eras and three remarkable carerrs collided. This was seen as the end of Hogan, the arrival of Nicklaus, and the coronation of Palmer as 'King'.

Nice to see we have some historians in here. Golf, like many other sports, has a deep and rich history that should never be forgotten.

Looking forward to more great answers. Hopefully the Crusher will chime in soon.

Thanks, Aidan.  Having waited until Level 79 to upgrade from starters I can remember all too well how it felt to have new sticks in my cyber hands.  One of the first clubs I used was the Spider putter.  I sat here and laughed at how nice it was.  I'm hoping someone here can experience the same well before Level 79.

Hoping to see some more responses in the next couple of days.
