I prefer 100 cr, 9 hole tourneys because risk of loss is limited, it fills up quickly and  gets over in reasonable time.  I don't mind losing few cents once in a while.  Presently, none of the TL RG excites me, as none fulfills what I am looking for.  It is also a misconception that all TLs are credit rich, or will dole out $3.0 without blinking an eyelid, knowing fully well that there are many similar skilled, or better, players that reduce the prospect of getting money back - let us just forget the possibility of a return.  A mistake on any of 18 Holes potentially sets back a player by $2 to $8, excluding cost of balls.

Further, I don't mind the occasional more "credit put-in round" but cannot wait for an eon to see the outcome, or block money till cows come home.  6 TL RGs were running simultaneously because three new RGs got added despite that the ongoing 3 RGs had not been filled up.  Ironically, a couple of those are in the limbo till date :)

WGT must ensure a quicker turnaround of events.  So, it ought to either reduce the 12 hour deadline to complete a round, or alternatively stop revealing leaderboard moment RG fills up, with 50 players on board.  Come on, one does not need 12 hours to complete 9 hole round.  Besides, it gives undue advantage to the few, who wait till the 11th hour to begin their round.

What advantage are you talking about? Perhaps the only thing is the psychological aspect, that when you see what your opponents posted it's easier to concentrate for your game. But for others it might be easier when they feel no stress of having to achieve a certain score...

It doesn't matter if you see the leaderboard or not. We all know it takes a 27 for 9 holes & 54 for 18 holes to win a RG these days. It's a case of make 1 mistake and you've blown your chance.

    WGTicon:

I am surprised that it takes so long to fill out.

    any idea why?>

people find oakmont and olympic harder to shoot low scores than other courses,so play where they have a chance of getting there creds back.

I totally don't get this argument. If it's harder to shoot low scores, then it is so for everybody. In these courses (especially under difficult conditions) it doesn't take a 54 to win, 57 or 58 may suffice. And you don't need to score a 58 to get your creds back, 62-63 may often be enough.

    geez..

only the top players can shoot 50s on these courses.

most people cant shoot well on oak and oly because they are tough courses so stay well away.

    just my take on it.

Maybe it's just me, but I find it easier to score a 61 (which is -9) in Oakmont than a 58 (which is -14) in St. Andrews... Andy also has tough holes, like 8, 11, 13, 17 where it's tricky to make a bird and after missing these you can see how easy it is to get a 58... :) And Oak has at least 8 very birdieable holes (that are a drive + a wedge shot)

LOL - there is no rocket science involved; you are right, it is a psychological advantage!  And for those who do not see the leaderboard, it is known to them that unless they shoot a certain low score, they will not get their money back. It is a fact, which may cause stress to some, while other maybe completely indifferent.
