Nope... you may remove the pin anytime you want.  Though I've never seen anyone hike 150 yards down the fairway to remove the pin for their shot.  Then walk back and replace it for others in their group.

Amen. While Zag admittedly pulls the plug from 200 yards in, it is ever with a chuckle, imagining dispatching the caddy to hustle down to the green to pull the stick from that distance. All kosher golf.

I played with many who pull the pin on all approach shots, and land 30 feet from the hole...kinda funny...

But, during the WGF Tour, I had the pleasure of playing many rounds with Zant, who also puled the pin on all approach shots, his reasoning is hit one stick and you are out of a bird opportunity...and Z was always around the pin.

So I do when I remember too, but often forget.

And, I recall a post a few months back that someone had won the Crystal "hit the flag stick award"...something like 1000?...I think, and one of WGT's better players said congrats, I've only hit a few...but I do have 1200 hole outs...

    Food for thought:)

Though I may try that soon with my golf buddies, just to see the reaction.

Could you please film that and put it on youtube ? :)

I hit the pin twice on one hole using the flop shot at RSG and have always pulled the ever since then.  Pitches, putts and chips the pin is coming out.

Lately I have been pulling the pin on all my approach shots.

Funnily enough, i am getting MUCH closer to the hole.

I think for me, it is a mindset, pulling the pin gives me a 'confidence'. Not pulling it i tend to feel 'oh well its not going to go in' feeliing.

    kinda, sorta.

IRL, there's only one time I can think of where pulling the pin from a ways out really helped me.  Sure, I pull it when chipping quite frequently, but also leave it in for a "backstop" if you will.  It's a feel and experience thing.....IRL.

I had a sand shot on a windy day.  The wind was blowing directly in my face at about 20mph....just enough to bend the stick forward.  I walked up sort of reading the green and taking a look close by the hole to see if the stick was being affected by the wind.  Of course it was leaning towards me to the point a ball wouldn't drop in if I happened to get lucky.

So, I pulled it.  And, I holed it.  Of course, I never saw it.  The wind blew a wad of sand in my eyes.  But, I heard my buddies congratulate me............and that's all I needed to know.

Don'cha hate that when you can't see your own good shot.  I didn't see my ball fall in the cup on my only hole-in-one because it was too dark.

LOL....bringing it back to WGT, I didn't see my shot roll over the hole w/o dropping the other day because my camera view never switched.  I sat there blind as a referee when my playing partners were yelling....oooooooooohhh.....did you see that sheet?  I'm like......what?  what'd i miss?
