Ummm... Pardon me for asking this...  But wasn't it Ken Venturi who gave those tips?

    Scott2mee:

    phiber:

This is such a revolation that I am going to go right to the courses and try it right now.  I am not sure why this hasn't been discussed in the past!!  Now, just how is it I use my putter to get the 125 yard approach shot so close to the pin???

I hate being sarcastic, especially to someone I don't even know, but come on, give me a break.  I truly wish I could put approach shots that close all the time, as we all do, but that hasn't anything to do with putting, but more of how much putting you have to do to score.  What I want and need to learn is how to read these greens that show break and the putt goes straight, or it shows a straight putt and the ball breaks????

I'm not sure everyone understands this but it is Ken Venteri that gave tips like this.. And I happened to remember this one.. I had never even heard of the WGT when he said this.. I did how ever buy into what he said and on the real golf course started shooting at the pin rather than just trying to place it on the green.. At first iit was disaster but eventually by getting my shots on closer to the hole.. I started to get my putts down.. Did it make me a better putter ? No..  But when I did get close from the fairway it left me with easier putts...

Good point Scott2, and well taken.  I think the logic, however points more towards the approach shot than it does the putting.  Heaven knows how some of these putts manage to break when they shouldn't or vice verse.  It is like target shooting, you can't hit the bulls eye if you don't aim at it.

We'll get fooled again, Scott :)

    (edit: by ourselves)

If you had given the source in the first place, ev1 would have nodded "wise guy". Alas, coming from a (to me) unknown user, I (we?) failed to see the wit behind it.

So, after all, thank you for this hidden gem of golfer's wisdom.

    Another, comparable one, my favourite:

"Competitive golf is played mainly on a five-and-a-half-inch course"

(what? 20 cm fairway width??) which looks like utter nonsense without the extension

"...the space between your ears" by Bobby Jones.

    Happy holidays!
