  Great play Hans!!!  Had a feeling we'd see a score like that. So far my best practice round has been -2. I've found it harder to play Olympic this time. I felt better on the course the last Tourney we had. Tomorrow Corwyn and I go live in our round. Should be fun.

  That's fantastic shooting, Hans! I'm just real sorry you didn't record it for us to all learn from what sounds like a Masterclass. (Did you grab any replays... ?)

  I had a chat with Hans earlier (in the googledoc spreadsheet, where he was presumably checking to see if his great score had been immortalized on the leaderboard yet, lol!), and he mentioned all the other putts he'd had from shortish to mid-range, that could have fallen, so it really sounds like he was consistently putting approach shots close, which on this course, is just phenomenal.

  I'm delighted to see so many early 3rd round posters putting up very decent scores (in a number of cases their best of the tourney so far) on the course we've always considered to be the very hardest challenge with Starters and Unevens. To me, it's perhaps the perfect test: the low wind makes it fair for everyone, and with that element of predictability, the course becomes like a puzzle... as you face the question every time of how can I get my approach to hold this green! Not only do you have to work it out, you have almost no margin for error. It's the perfect test!

  I haven't managed to break par here in practice, although I was -2 after 9 in one effort... [EDIT: I meant to say too that in this round, that ended with 2 annoying bogeys on the back, I hit every GIR except #14 & of course, #1. That would have shocked you all, to post an 89% GIR for real!] so we'll see what happens tomorrow. I fear that with this round, Hans might have put himself out of reach, and the rest of us once again could just be playing for the other places...

  Was it Low wind settings for Olympic?

   

  Not sure but I think me and seemorehair played moderate winds... he made the set up so I'm really not sure... my screenshots show 7mph and 8mph... maybe thats low...

  Corwyn will confirm but low winds range from 2mph-8mph at Oly I believe.

  Also fair play to Hans; to pull that round off is pretty special when you're in a non-practice round. I hit the same score this morning but needed to drain a lot of testing 5-8ft'ers to save par. Not easy at all and I'd take a score 4-5 shots worse than this if I was offered it now.

  I think both players came off the course feeling both pleased and disappointed with their scores.

  Jure started off solidly bar a double bogey on 5 and his back nine saw three bogeys to finish with a +5 total. He missed 2-3 shortish birdie putts which also lead to three putt bogeys which is where the frustration will lie in his round. He also managed to get up and down brilliantly on occasions (the 16th deserves a special mention having gone into the trees on the left off the tee; a superb par was the end result).

  I started off horridly going +4 after 5 holes (a repeat of R1 for me). With my meter jumping somewhat, I was absolutely gutted having played well in practice over the last few days. Once I managed to calm down, I came home in a -3 total through the final 12 holes. This could've been so much better with three putts hanging on the edge and a flagsticked shot on 16.

  My GIR (33%) was 30% under what I was hitting in practice so I was pleased with my scrambling but it was still a frustrating end result on a round where I was looking to be 2-3 shots better than my end score.

  Best of luck for R4 Jure; I hope you get plenty of good winds and miss the RSG humps where possible ;)

  Nice playing guys! Looks I have alot of work to do! I was just coming by to hopefully find a marker willing to play with before Sunday comes around. Go 49ers! :) I can play from about 7pm to 12am GMT for the next few days. My first practice round on Olympic started with a quad on #1 but managed to hack around for a 79. Hopefully my marker and I can play closer to Saturday so I can practice a bit :)

  Well, Cerino and I just finished, with neither of us able to reproduce anywhere near our best in practice. In Cerino's defense, he had a lot of real-life stuff on his mind: for someone who has plotted his way expertly around Olympic, and has a deep understanding of how the course functions, it was sad to see him shoot below potential. Mostly, his putter wasn't performing, but he made a great recovery from a dreadful start of +3 after 3.

  I had the strangest schizophrenic round, following great shots with abysmal ones. I just couldn't find a consistent rhythm. And my recovery shots, so critical on Olympic, were just not behaving today. A 3-putt on #4 (after a great GIR) was terrible, and I made a total hash of #11, with 4 bad shots in a row... but the worst was making an awful mess of the 2 par 5s, when I thought I still had a chance to go under par for the round. I limped home with 71, but given how several 20+ foot putts were drained, it could have been so much better (and, of course, worse!).

  Some highlights: (btw: everyone: even in multiplayer games like this you can save replays, just Go to MENU -—> Save Replay of Last Shot; you can do this while your partner is prepping to play, but you have to hurry, so just click Share —> Copy URL, and then paste it quickly onto Notepad or TextEdit program, and Cancel out to get back to the game. Note: you can only Save a replay of your own last shot.)

  #3 birdie putt;  #4 approach;  #5 approach;  #7 birdie putt (this one gave me heart palpitations!);  #12 birdie putt;  #15 birdie putt

  Hans now has a 7 shot lead on the field, gulp!

  Yes, James is right. Mike, you did have low winds (which was the correct setting). Your pics just happened to be at the high end of the range.

  Moderate winds at Olympic are more like 10-13mph (and perhaps a bit higher). That was what I saw on a couple of practice holes to verify.

  That's a beautiful looking card, James (and with a bogey on the birdie-able 15th to boot). However, I'm not in the least surprised that you can manage a 26 putt round even on Olympic's greens!
