There is no technological reason for the performance to be any different on the Golf Channel website.

    ummm....

    how about...

    1. the golf channel will primarily have visitors browsing articles and not all playing the wgt game at once.....hence smoother meter.

    2. servers.....i don't know wgt's server set up nor the golf channels....but their difference might handle the game differently.

    3. bandwith..............there's bandwith....and there's premium bandwith......this can effect game play.

    4. network carriers....wgt use above.net    golf channel use comcast.

    just sayin :)

edit......i agree with pizza on this one.

as the game on the golf channel is only an iframe embed.....then this won't effect the meter as the game client's stilll hosted on wgt's side.

    happy new year.

That was nice SHRUDE, but you flopped it. I hit the stick with my 64 degree Tour wedge with a chip, so a chip is possible there even though the edge looks like 3 yards away.

Very. I'll say it again: There is no technological reason for the performance to be any different on the Golf Channel website.

If you are noticing a difference, it is not because you are playing the game through the Golf Channel website.

Wow... I suggest you stay classy and avoid commenting on tech stuff. I gave you two perfectly valid explanations WHY there might, and in some cases WILL be differences. Are you seriously claiming they were not correct? I would advice you to consult your tech team before answering that question. If he is in today.

Well, it is smoother on the smaller window, that would explain it.  Smaller screen, shorter meter, less pixels to render, less work for the CPU/GPU.  We had the same phenomena when the USGA hosted a Pebble Beach CTTH a couple years back.  People were saying how much smoother the meter was.

On the full screen version, not as good, stuttered a bit for me.  I always play on a smaller window, never full screen.

    mkg335:
The location of the game client shouldn't make a difference, I would think.

The location of the game is the same, the surroundings  is not. Game is wrapped within another page that is using resources and some of those resources is sharing the same Flash engine that WGT uses. That does not mean it will affect the game in any noticeable manner, but it sure can.

And for the full screen - anyone that has a bad meter can check the difference between full screen and default window size. In most cases full screen will perform worse, specially if you use WGT's fullscreen button at the bottom right corner.

There is solid technical reasons why the above will affect the performance in various degrees. I am not giving you my opinions, I state facts. And facts is that the statement 'no difference' is false. If the difference is noticeable for the majority of the players is a different matter completely.

WGT has been ignoring complaints about the meter for years now and for some reason they get away with it. But I am not letting them get away with outright lies because the unpredictable meter is dragging this game down from 7/10 to 4/10.

There is a select few that never have meter problems, but the wast majority experience meter problems regularly to some degree. If we knew why, then we could fix it. But we don't. We just know what makes it worse and try to avoid that. Among one of the things we have learned to avoid is having windows or tabs open that plays ads.
