    I live in the southern hemespire and were like, most of the modern world use the metric system. It would be great if their were an option to select metric or imperial.

    Also my local course would love to be a part of this game.

    Metric has been asked for only some days ago, but since this ain't a major fault or an item improving WGT's income, the realisation may have to wait. I assure you that you might learn that &%$$ foot/inch thingy after 50 futile putts ;)

    Regarding your local course I'm sorry to take away all your hopes: AFAIK, WGT courses are from the Northern hemisphere unless a US Open Championship or a (British) Open Championship may be performed Down Under one day.

    I  don't see the need, this isn't the real world, the distance is just a number, it could be yards, metres, miles, light years, inside leg measurements, the unit is irrelevant in a virtual world.

    3 inches, 3 feet doesn't matter?

    So, you play all 3 ... uphill putts the same?

    I assume it's more of a cost cutting thing than an oversight. The same reason we don't have left handed play. It's a lot simpler to pander to the majority.

    First off sorry for bumping such an old thread. Just wanted to bring this up again hoping WGT will notice a player interest in this and implement Metric system option.

    Replies in this thread (as well as others like this) and like the one quoted seem to miss the main point of the metric system:

    Conversion between orders of magnitude!

    1 meter is 10 decimeters or 100 centimeters or 1000 millimeters. Any prefix used can very easily be converted to any other prefix in your head without a calculator. You instantly know 0.456 meters is 45.6 centimeters.

    Now, 1 yard is 3 feet or 36 inches. Converting 0.456 yards into inches is difficult without a calculator (or google).

    The game often give you measurements in different scales (distance in yards and elevation in feet, or distance in feet and elevation in inches). Easy conversion would help. Like when you need to know how many yards 53 feet is exactly. Not very difficult but still takes some thinking to come up with 17.66 yards. Unlike if you need to know how many meters 53 decimeters is. IDK, maybe if you were brought up with imperial system this would be an easy conversion?

    Example:
    A 168 yard par 3 is playing 53 feet downhill. Now I have to divide 53 with 3 if I want to subtract 1 yard distance for every yard downhill (53/3 = 17.66) .

    In metric a 168 meter hole 176 decimeters downhill would play 168 - 17.6 meters (just move the dot).

    Yards = meters x .9144

    if (player.distanceDisplay == 0)  { do yards stuff }

    else { function to convert yards to meters }

    They already have the yards, it's just a matter of running it through a function based on your country (or selected measurement value) before the values are displayed on-screen.  That's pretty simple stuff and really all it should take (granted it does have to happen in a few places, scorecards, hole info etc).  I don't think this would be a major problem to implement.  We're just mathing a few numbers. It's just a 1/0 switch in the DB.

    In principle, I believe you're right.  However, I think most familiar with the imperial system might struggle knowing how to hit 1 meter vs 1.2 meter.  How much more meter is that visually? (don't say 20% :P).  Conversely, those unfamiliar with imperial measurements may not have a good idea of how to take 6 inches off a putt.

    I get where they're coming from.  Ease of use in user experience.  Tough to argue with that.

    It's not that conversion, since it makes no difference if I have to hit a 300 yds tee shot with a 300 yds driver or a 270 m tee shot with a 270 m driver.

    The problem is in the unit steps. 1yd = 3 feet, 1 foot = 12 inches, widely differing factors compared to the 10 - 10 - 10 of Decimals.

    Biggest problem for "metric" people is the odd uphill putt of 40 ft + 3 ft elevation: 40 + 12x3. But, as I said a few years ago, we'll get used to it after a bunch of mistakes ;) Metric people are adaptive...

    OTOH, the common calcs for elevation only work in Imperial scales: 1 yd for 3 feet elevation through the green, and 1 foot for 3 in elevation on the greens. I don't want to have to calc this in Metrics ;)

    yes it is an old thread but fair enough to bump with a point.

    I moved to Australia from Blighty (England).

    I now drive in Kilometres per hour, not MPH.  I also play RL golf in metres, not yards as in Blighty.  Fortunately I still get to drive on the correct side of the road being the right:)  None of that is hard IRL or here.

    Personally I see this as a small fry nice touch that would be OK if optional.  Remember IRL you play RSG or say CB you get yards.

    I would say to WGT please do not even think about it until you get the real issues fixed, but then they have been off designing pumpkin tee markers anyway LOL
